COVID-19 Coronavirus UPDATES, BANS, CLOSURES, ADVISORY, etc.

I don't know much about trading. I wonder what Pharma company will be the first to get an FDA approved Vaccine, and what it would do to the company stock value?

There are many of them who can produce the vaccine, it is more a matter who can get it through the process to market. I would guess that's still a year off.

If you are looking at Pharma companies, the ones who have the lowest levels of production in China are the best bet. I like Pfizer and J&J.

As more people get infected more will recover. I believe that it will take a while, but soon more will have immunity and it will calm down. However, my take away is go for a jog! There will be another virus soon enough. Age alone isnt the issue, it's that most of us do not maintain cardiovascular fitness. Grow old with good lungs and you are better prepared for the next virus to emerg and incubate in our crowded urban centers. Be well my friends.

The avalanche continues:

More Travel bans.

UK, Ireland added to US Ban starting Monday evening. March 16. (Non US Citizens)

All persons (citizens or not) entering NZ will be isolated for 14 days upon arrival.

Australia - All arrivals have to self isolate for 14 days.

Spain locking down for the country.

France doing partial lock down

Nepal closing down the climbing season. No Everest this year.

American Airlines suspends almost ALL long haul flights starting March 16 until May 6.
75% reduction in international capacity.

Delta eliminating flights to Europe for the next 30 days.

My first impression was that this was like a bad case of the flu. However in the ensuing days it’s become quite clear that it’s much more than that. The amount of pressure it will put on medical care facilities around the world is alarming. I was unfortunately living in Guangdong, China when SARS broke out there. That was an intense couple of months but blew over fairly quickly but the incubation period of this virus makes it dramatically different.

Whether or not hunters should keep their original hunting plans has become largely a non-argument in the face of the travel bans that have come into effect and can come potentially into effect. This virus is going to cripple the African safari industry and we’re certainly not the only industry that will be affected. We need to find the strength to accept it and find new opportunities to survive and come back stronger.

I hope and do believe for good reason Coronavirus won’ take hold in a significant way in SA. But that doesn’t mean there’s no risk in traveling here. We’ve had numerous postponements due to travel bans out of neither party’s control. I’ve got clients trying to change their flights at the moment to try keep their original booking. It’s an individual choice and determined by ones age, health and perception of risk.

I beg you to consider the economic impact of this. The impact of a cancelled hunt, vacation, cruise whatever it filters down right down to the lowest staff member who’s supporting his entire family. Wherever possible please consider postponing rather than cancelling your intended hunt or vacation.

Local government has now set out a 14 day isolation for ANY international travel.
Canada to USA, anything.

I feel for everyone in the industry.

It's all up in the air now. (no pun intended, honest)

Best thing to do right now

If you're out of the country now, upon return you'll be quarantined for two weeks.

Australia will impose a two-week quarantine requirement for anyone arriving from overseas, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on Sunday.

I'm not a medical professional, but I am a government affairs exec with the largest health care company in the world. We have some of the top biostatisticians in the industry and they are providing daily briefings to senior leadership. Every single briefing has left more concerned, the next month or so going to be far worse than I thought possible 10 days ago.

Yes, Yancy, but WHY are they predicting that 'the next month of two will be 'far worse?' What does 'worse' mean? Does it mean, for example, 'much worse' in terms of the safari industry's business [as well as numerous other businesses] or does it mean 'much worse' in terms of serious disease. I think it is safe to predict that many African nations with impoverished infrastructures and numerous Red Chinese operatives and 'workers', are going to experience a lot of cases of covid 19. On the other hand, with limited medical facilities, many citizens of these nations, who do get sick, are likely to rely on their own devices. If a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it still make a noise as it falls? I think so.

SciShow is pretty good at boiling complicated ideas down to understandable bites while presenting a well reasoned and balanced perspective.
