Welcome to AH Laurie Colgrave!

Thanks for accepting me! I am planning my first African trip in 2021 to Namibia!

Hello Laurie,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

You have chosen a wonderful caliber to bring to Namibia.
Woodleigh bullets at 9.3x62 speeds, have an awesome reputation in Africa.

With this combination, I predict that you will fare extremely well on your Safari.
Also, I agree with others on the beauty of your 9.3x62 Mauser.
It is refreshing to my old man eyes when I see something other than stainless steel, plastic stocks, muzzle brakes and scopes with so many knobs and gadgets on them that they look more like a futuristic movie prop than a sporting good.

Yours truly also has a 9.3x62, built on a 1950’s vintage FN commercial Mauser action.
However, the lumber on mine is plain grained compared to the lumber on your rifle.
My 9.3 is a real peach to carry and to shoot though.
Great minds think alike.

Anyway..Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Bob, this is a beautiful Zebra, but it is a Burchells and not a Hartmann’s.

Regards

Laurie I sent you a private message from me mate.
I'm not an outfitter or anything else. I'm 61 and hunted Namibia with my family Oct last year.
Please feel free to call me. My phone number is in your private message.
Go there you will have a ball.

Hey Paul thanks for the welcome,
My gunsmith shared the vision of an old Rigby style rifle , the stockmaker did the rest with a bit higher comb to accomodate scope use, I am very happy with the performance of the rifle!

Knuckle bump to both the metal worker and the stock maker.
They are indeed “Artists” in every sense of the word.

Seeing as you like artistry in wood and metal I will attach a photo of one of mine.
It an 1885 Winchester lowall built in 1891. Sleeved and chambered for the 22K Hornet, timber from Luxus walnut in the USA.
All work was carried out by Rob Spittles in Rylestone NSW Australia.
All done the old fashioned way, no pantograghs mainly a lathe and hand tools.

Cheers mate Bob

Welcome to the family and the forum Laurie, you are in the right place! Nothing like AH for information and getting people on their way to Africa.

I am taking my custom FN 9.3x62 on my trip to Namibia using 286gn Woodleigh handloads.View attachment 331716
Good man!! Superb calibre, and handloads. Your rifle looks just dandy!!

NB: Advice for your reloaded ammunition:
Last June I flew out of Perth for my SA hunt, but the Airport Manager (obviously Hitler's great nephew!!) refused to allow me to board with my reloads - because they were reloaded "without the regulatory industry quality controls" as is with factory ammo!! So I flew out without any 9.3x62 or .458 Win Mag ammo!! VERY ANNOYING!!

Solution: tumble your cases, keep them sparkling and pack them in crisp new factory cardboard boxes. IF asked - say: "it's factory bought ammo!!"

Best of luck in Namibia!! (y)

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
