Warne, Talley, or Leupold QD rings ?

the problem with Weavers isn't being able to see whether it's level or not. The problem is the torque being applied when tightening the ring screw causes the scope to twist. Guessing how much it will twist is the key. Leveling prior to tightening just means that when the rings are tightened the scope will no longer be level.

You nailed it.

If we are talking Weavers, this thread has slipped.

Warne’s are my go to quality steel base & ring. Sure, with a 2 lb or larger scope, my go to is TPS.

Now we are going to talk Weaver....ok. Weaver’s suck IME. They do not make the ring material strong enough to hold the joint torque. There is literally not enough clamp load on the bolt to keep it from backing out. Why? Too thin, wrong material. Every Weaver I have used has failed. I admit...only 3.

Add to that the twisting during tighten....ask yourself, why do they do this? Something is stretching too much or yielding.

Rant off! Sorry!

The weavers turn the scope because there are only screws on one side. Tally’s do the same thing, but not as bad.

Ive been very happy with Warne QD. They seem to hold up better on magnum and big bore. Leupold works fine with .308.

For the price had to beat Warne. But another greta option is EGW. I have them on a 300HH

The only person I have used in the States is J. J. Peradeau (sp?) at Champlin Arms in Enid, OK. With my weakness for Germanic guns, he has done a number of rings for me for pre-existing claw bases, and did beautiful work on a couple of double rifles. Claws are wonderful things.
He is sure as heck worth what he charges! I made a good tight set with Swiss files and a smoke lamp and it took me about 50 hours, not counting sitting pondering along the way.

Ed, the video you posted of the EAW mounts was great. Now I see how it works. My guess is the machining and finish is very good, something which I appreciate. My guess the reason I've not seen them before is because I live in the US. I'm going to research them more closely. Thanks Much Ed.
NECG probably stocks them

Ed,

That EAW technology looks very cool. But, I cannot see the lever for the quick detach feature. I saw it for break rifles with ribs, but I didn't see it for mauser style bolt guns. Are those also QD with levers ?

I have several EAW small lever is on rear base with a small knob. Very solid system and typical German with many parts but when setup properly will stay put and no change in zero by removing and putting back.

NightForce just like their scopes! Then Warne! Lots of good custom guys out there!

I hate to say it because it’s not traditional for a hunting rifle, but LaRue Tactical makes the best QD optic mounts for a true return to zero. The Marine Corps tested just about every imaginable system for their ACOG and LaRue won hands down. Principally, I believe it’s because the cam lis adjustable to the rail and can be tightened to address tolerances.

Hello friends.

I will be scoping a 375 Holland, and I'm going with QD rings. I'd like your opinions on the three brands that I've researched for QD rings: Warne, Talley, Leupold. I already own some Warne QD rings and I'm good with them, but I want to put the best ones on my new rifle, and I've never seen the others in the flesh, so I'd like to know what you guys think, and use, and why.

Thanks

I have Talley steel QR rings on my CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery. Over 400 full power loads through it. No change in zero. When I take my Leupold 1.5-5x scope off and put it back on (I don't let others shoot it with a scope on) it's always within 1/2" of zero at 100 yards.
