There are some amazing rifles in there. But that auction is a great reminder that we can’t take anything with us.

Called to put in bids on several rifles at above high estimates. Their tone suggested I was wasting all of our time for calling with 120% of high estimate bids on 6 safari rifles.

That Mauser 66S 3 barrel set rifle is making me drool on my iPad....along with that Warren Dschulnigg double .375...
Oh well. It was a nice dream. I will live within my means and see if I can pick up some of the reloading stuff.

Meaning they are thinking they will hit 150% of high estimate or not hit it at all?

meaning their estimates are way below what will be realized on most guns I was interested.

that Westley drop lock is a $40-$50k gun, I bet it goes under $25k...that will be the deal.

so too the three Kurz action guns.

I picked up a few jewels in the auction that probably should have cost double in a healthy market.

That Holland Royal 465/500 double went for $20,500 plus buyer premium (not to me unfortunately). That is dirt cheap for that rifle.

Well I dunno about you but I'm damn well gonna try. Worked for my ancestors and the Pharaohs of old.

Fly in with a couple of Chinese friends and watch the room clear, bargains galore.

Why didn’t I think about that!! Would have been the only way to afford the ones I wanted.

However, ended up with some decent .338 Win Mag and .375 H&H ammo and reloading supplies.

Yikes! Some will go for more than my house!

A friend of mine's guns were sold at auction. They brought dimes on the dollar. The market for high end rifles is in the tank. Like the boomers, they're dying off.

Yep. There seems to be a lot of advanced collectors that are passing away leading to some amazing collections being liquidated into a saturated and poor market. Good for us collectors now, I guess, if you can find money to buy some of the cool stuff. Makes me a little scared to invest a ton of money there though as it is hard to know what these amazing rifles are really "worth" now. Also, you can make yourself poor taking advantage of so many "good deals".

I scored a bunch of .416 Barnes bullets. That drained my play money...

Aahhhhhhh. So you were my competition for those..... :)
Glad they went to an AH member.
I was planning on scoring some stuff from yesterday and then Proxibid went on the Fritz right in the middle of the auction and I could not bid.

The crazy items that went for dumb money I saw:

The restored and chopped down WR .318 takedown went for $4700 with a bad bore, plus 20% commission.

A no-name safari 375HH single square bridge went north of $6000.

Unremarkable Griffin & Howe rifles in odd wildcat calibers going $6000-$7000 after commissions? (they'd have sold for $4k from any gun dealer in the US after a year in inventory)

I only bought one gun - had bids on 21. The "gold name" WR 500/465 seemed well bought at $14,500 plus vig, the Rigby .30/06 looked to be a very nice gun. If I had seen it in person, I might have bid a bit more. Agree on the HH Royal 500/465 being a value at $20.500, but it appeared to have had a lot of work done on it...

There were quite a few odd ducks in the auction, strange engraving or dead calibers, that brought decent money.

I had my eye on the Rigby 30-06 too but it went for more than I would have been interested in it for. I checked the records on it and it was a plane jane 303 originally so have a ton of non-original mods done too it and an ebony tipped stock which no British born Rigbys would have had. Still looked interesting and nice but I bowed out a little before the selling price.
