Thanks for including me in the forum, from Australia

Hello Andrew Hunting,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

Cheers,
Velo Dog.

Velo Dog
Mate curiosity has finally got the better of me. How did you get the name Velo Dog Mate?
If my memory serves me correctly the velo dog was a small revolver used by the French to deter dogs while riding bikes. It's a combination of velocopede (bike) and dog.
Hence the term Velo Dog
Cheers mate Bob

Hi Bob Nelson 35Whelen,

My apologies beforehand in regards to the following, probably tedious but definitely, round-about rant.

When I was in the first grade, due to my last name being Ard, the other children began calling me “Aardvark”.
The nickname stuck all these years.
However, when I joined The World’s Greatest Forum here, a message popped up, indicating that the screen name; “Aardvark”, was already taken.
So, I cast about for another screen name.

At the time, I was concerned about the “dummies” (criminals) stalking my wife.
This concern was because she had been a Prosecutor, with the State of Alaska District Attorney’s Office, here in Anchorage.
Likewise, I had been a Police Officer here in Anchorage for 20 years.
So, I figured I shouldn’t go by my real name, as even though criminals are usually (usually) almost retarded, nonetheless even a rank moron will presume that by her last name, she must be related to me.

Nowadays, I suspect that enough years have passed that I do not feel overly-concerned about putting my name out there.
Sometimes I receive hate mail from the Vegan Cult types but that has absolutely nothing to do with my last name.

Blah, blah, blah ... I settled on “Velo Dog” because my favorite pastime is firearms and that one is I suppose, sort of worth mentioning.
Incidentally, the person who originally tied up the screen name; “Aardvark”, only posted a relatively few times and then poof, they disappeared.
(Naturally, they vanished a bit too late for me to choose it as my screen name, hahahaha.....ha).

At any rate, you are correct.
Velo-Dog is a shortened version of the full descriptor; “Velocipede Anti-Dog”.
Yes as I recall, these tiny, usually always double action revolvers, originated in Paris, a little over one hundred years ago.
In those times, bicycle riding was becoming very popular, pretty much in all cities within most all industrialized countries, around the world, Paris of course included.
Simultaneously, from what I have read, there was also a multitude of free-range dogs (no game fences LOL) that, often chased / attacked bicycle riders.

Evidently, a well placed 5 or 5.5 or 6mm soft lead bullet, even though at low velocity, kept these hoodlum mutts from pulling their intended victims off of passing “velocipedes”.

Rant over.
I guess I’m another one of those wordy old buzzards that, when someone asks me; “what time is it?”, I proceed to tell them how to build a clock, LOL.

Cheers,
Veelovark.

PS:
I do acknowledge that I speak with a North American, (specifically, Pacific North West) accent but, I really like Vegemite on toast, with thin sliced tomato.
Hopefully that will warrant a gold star beside my name LOL.

That warrants 2 gold stars mate. You are closer to Canada than the U.S. may be you are part Canadian now.
It's good to see you like vegemite, if you like it on toast top it off with a soft poached egg. My wife loves it.
Nothing wrong with us old farts we still have a few miles left in us.
Cheers ardvark

The 2 alround rifles for OZ are a good 25 cal and a 35 Whelen.
You should know that now.
Cheers mate.
The 375 h&h would make a great pig gun.

Hi again Bob,

Thanks mate.
Today I shall try that poached egg on toast with vegemite (vegemite is available in more than one grocery store here).
Yes, we Alaskans consider all Canadians our next door neighbors and British Columbians as well as residents of The Yukon our first cousins.

IMO, Canadians seem to be a bit more educated than the average Alaskan, often speaking more than one language and such.
They put up with us as their rowdy, bar room brawling, reckless driving, gunslinger kin.
Generally speaking though, we have more in common with British Columbians / Yukon residents than we do with about half or more of our otherwise fellow USA residents.

Cheers,
Paul.
