Department of Homeland Security suspends Global Entry program for New Yorkers

The Department of Homeland Security announced the suspension of renewals and enrollments for Global Entry and other Trusted Travel Programs for New York residents.
Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Wednesday that the move was a response to the state’s “Green Light Law” supporting undocumented immigrants.
“Today, we sent a letter to New York indicating, because they took these measures, that New York residents are no longer eligible to enroll in these Trusted Traveler Programs,” Wolf said.
Other programs suspended by DHS include NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST. They have millions of members and allow them to bypass long Customs and Border Protection lines.
The change will also prohibit vehicle exports. The letter does not refer to TSA’s PreCheck program.
“Although DHS would prefer to continue our long-standing cooperative relationship with New York on a variety of these critical homeland security initiatives, this Act and the corresponding lack of security cooperation from the New York DMV requires DHS to take immediate action to ensure DHS’s efforts to protect the Homeland are not compromised,” Wolf wrote in a letter sent to New York State Officials.
The Green Light Law, enacted in December 2019, allows undocumented individuals to apply for New York driver licenses while protecting their information.
According to Wolf, the Green Light Law prohibits the state’s DMV from sharing criminal records with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Wolf said the change would go into immediate effect.

The change comes a day after President Trump’s State of the Union address where he attacked “sanctuary cities,” including New York City, for protecting undocumented individuals.

I'm curious if this will have an effect on non-New York residents transiting through JFK. Logically, it shouldn't, but we all know how bureaucracies can be.

The only effect is whether or not someone was planning to apply for a trusted traveler program - and Global Entry makes a huge difference at busy airports. If a New York resident was, they are now screwed. A chat with the governor might be a wise place to start.

Unintended consequences.

I am waiting for Adam Schiff to open impeachment hearings against Trump for this..........

I don't know why I partially misread the original post. Usually my critical reading skills are better. For some reason I thought they were also suspending the current Global Entry memberships. And yes, Global Entry is a lifesaver in busy airports upon return from overseas. I wonder how long until California falls under the same policy.

On the one hand, I feel bad for our AH brethren living in NY. On the other hand this makes me happy and I kind of hope they extend this to places like CA and other sanctuary states

Too bad they did not include pre-check too. Can’t wait till this moves to CA.

Don't you just love it when the govt does something productive? Hope it hits all sanctuary states, cities, towns, everything right down to neighborhoods.

Maybe the voters in NY will reconsider who gets their votes.

Have the same BS here in Delaware. Illegals can get a driver's license. I love it when these self righteous dweebs say no one is above the law. I guess that doesn't apply to people here illegally.

My wife ( a Republican) from New York, had no problem moving to Missouri because of the way things were going there. She worked in but live just north of The City. Once Giuliani left as mayor of NYC it started going to shit again.

My former home has turned into a real cesspool unfortunately. Liberal government officials have ruined that beautiful state. It’s now a dumping ground for illegals, gang members, the homeless and STUPIDITY!
