The DVD by Safari Classics called "Buffalo Fully Loaded" is an excellent learning tool with descriptions of all of the various types of African buffalo, the countries where each type are most prevalent, how to hunt them, rifle choices, shot placement, etc. I found it to be very informative when I was getting ready for my first buffalo hunt in 2018. (I found it on Amazon I think) Also, there are many, many youtube videos about hunting Cape Buffalo in Africa. Just do a search on youtube.com.
Practice, practice, practice with the rifle you are using for buffalo. Practice on sticks, on a bench rest, kneeling, off-hand standing and kneeling as you never know what shot may be called for. Most first shots are from the sticks, but the follow-up could be off-hand or using a tree for stability, etc. Also, if you have access to ranch property, take your rifle and go hiking and get used to carrying it around for long periods of time and even do some jogging with the rifle. Buffalo hunting can be an all day affair, especially if you are tracking a wounded dagga boy. Get in shape for your hunt. Your PH will appreciate it.
And when you finally get on the ground in Africa, do exactly what the PH tells you to do.
Good luck and have fun! Buffalo hunting is addictive!
