This is a portion of the PM sent to me and I have been asked to post it:

The PH that he mentions is Clayton Fletcher ...he was accused of being the "kingpin" of rhino poaching in the northwest. I like in a town close to where his farm is..
He use to operate under sandhurst safaris, but I see he changed it to Tinashe Group.
I will link a couple of news reports on the matter.

Rhino poachers in dock - Sowetan LIVE

Copied from a hunt offer here on AH.

"Guys outstanding info.

Attached some more pics one more white lion at R 120 000 and see price on photo of bigger lion."

Not someone I would want to book a hunt with. Might wind up in jail or out a lot of money before it was all said and done. Plenty of good people to work with. No need to get involved with people like this. Thanks Brickburn for the info. Bruce

Preciate the info Brickburn. Allthough I like to put some questionmarks on this case. Accusations are not the same as convictions. Why was there never raised any formal accusation?

Good info to share Brick. Hope those poachers get what they deserve.

Brickburn, how recent is this info, from what I can tell it is 2008. What was the trial outcomes of the arrests? Where is the rest of the story.

There is some serious repercussions if found guilty. Banned from SCI if a member, SCI members are forbid to hunt with them, and I see from the Bongo hunt offered, Jim Shockey just hunted June 2012 with Gert Saaiman who is offering the Bongo hunt here in AH.

AH members, Read the Rhino Poaching-poachers tell all. Read the details.

You will see Gert Saaiman who is selling a Bongo hunt on AH was arrested for Rhino poaching! Could there be two Gert Saaiman's?

I await more info on these articles. Serious stuff and serious consequenes if there is guilt.

As a neophyte I must confess that I just get my arms around this whole rhino poaching thing.

As I understand it, if I want to hunt a rhino I can, all I need is lots and lots and lots of money. It is my understanding that a hunt like this starts around a 1/4 mil. USD

With that value, I cannot fathom a developing country in Africa allowing a bunch of thugs and criminals to essentially "steal" that kind of money....I think I read some where one country was pleased that only 175 animals were lost last year! For crying out loud that is something like 40 million USD

The sad part is that technology exists to virtually eliminate almost all rhino poaching, my quandary is why it is not employed

I'm going to see what Shockey's camp has to say about this. Obviously someone isn't doing their homework, or maybe they are and just don't give a shit. Either way it paints Shockey in a bad light. His "Professionals" TV show is one of the few hunting shows I like to watch.

Yes, I would to hear his take on the subject too!

Thanks for looking out for the members to both Brickburn and Jerome. Much apprciated.

Here is an article by the Hunting Report:

A Positive Hunt Report From Congo

(posted July 02, 2012)

The Hunting Report has just received a first-hand report on the latest hunting safari conducted by Gert Saaiman and Andre Van Deventer of Congo Safaris. The report is from subscriber and TV personality Jim Shockey, who emailed me from his hotel room in Congo Brazzaville after completing his successful hunt. Here is a sneak peak at his report:

"Obviously, with all the negative press associated with the Congo safaris of 2011, I had reservations. But virtually all of those reservations proved unfounded. We waltzed right through Immigration and Customs. The rep from Congo Safaris met us and took us to a simple, clean and safe hotel, where we stayed that night and the next, waiting to catch one of the twice-weekly domestic flights to Quesso.

"Once in camp, we awoke every morning, just before first light and either drove the logging roads looking for animals or headed into the jungle to sit at one of the many open meadow areas with ponds in the middle. We tracked and took a great dwarf forest buffalo on the first day of hunting. We saw the bongo I eventually killed late one evening with a smaller bull, beside a logging road. I took a huge, ancient Peter's duiker and a respectable Gabon duiker and missed a spot-and-stalk 236-yard shot at a black-fronted duiker. Anyway, it has been a great trip ... so far. As it stands, I would definitely recommend the hunt to anyone who is not afraid of hot, sweaty, buggy jungles and accommodations sans air conditioning."

Continuing subscribers will remember the first Congo safaris last season did not go well. (See Article ID 2708.) Have Saaiman and Van Deventer turned things around? Apparently, they just might have. I will have Shockey's full report for you in the August issue of The Hunting Report along with more details on what Congo Safaris is doing this season.

I sent something to Shockey's website asking for an explanation. Now we'll wait to see if I get a reply. Unfortunately I was unable to post the link to the article. If I don't hear from someone in a little bit I'll go to his face book page for the entire world to see. I don't want to start there because I don't like facebook. Interesting that his bongo hunt is posted all over on the page as you scroll down. If that don't work I'll contact someone at SCI.
I have a hard time believing that they didn't catch wind about that particular PH. If a regular joe can find that info out (NO Offense Brick) than how does a "professional" not.

I have appreciation for a person opening a company in a country that there was no opportunity before, but if someone was involved in the rhino poaching business....to gain the revenue to open a new company.....THERE IS A HUGE PROBLEM THERE, and ETHICALLY I COULD NEVER GET PAST SOMEONE POACHING AND WASTING RHINOS. That's just so wrong!

x2 it goes against everything we as hunters and conservationists stand for.

I can't see any problem enysse

Ethically I would have no problem whatsoever wasting a rhino poacher

perhaps you, as a true gentleman hunter and sportsman, are just being too compassionate!

whoops!

Sorry enysse, I miss read your post

gotta work on that dyslexia thing some more

Man , did I let the cat outta the bag or what!

I think, I have said it before, but I'll say it again. Until we black list everyone involved in RHINO POACHING. We are hurting ourselves as African hunters and people interested in the well being of what is best for wildlife conservation. This not the first time, I have seen someone end one company and start another one under a different name because of rhino poaching either.

No offense taken Second Wind, I thought you would get it right.:D

Very very interesting!! I would like to hear some more on this! Brick thanks for.the articles. Sure does sound like the same people. But has anyone found convcition info. All of these articles are accusations. I would like to see some....."so and so was convicted of"....
