I carried striker pistols most of my life,, until I fired my first 1911.
I carry a 1911 80% of the time now but still revert to my glock or springfield xd if I'll be in harsher environments for awhile.

Yes, condition 1

There's lots written about this as some are opposed to chambered.
But you're far too slow to try and chamber a round when it's needed.
And it's argued a negligent discharge is more likely under stress trying to do so.

Bottom line just like hunting, don't touch the trigger until you're ready to fire
And practice practice practice

I would carry my 1911 with one in the chamber with the Hammer down,But really no need as my Carry is a compact 45ACP striker fire with a manual safety

Here in Wyoming we have some cool cool concealed carry laws I have for years carried a 5 shot taurus polylite in 357 mag or a ruger Sp 101 2.5 in 357 mag either one hellisly loud and not much fun to shoot but both extremely accurate at 25 feet and will stop most anyone,much easier to conceal than my P94 40 S&W or my sainless Blackhawk in 44 mag all depends on what you shoot well and are comfy with most self defense happens at pretty close range with humans self defense with handguns for animals is a real crapshoot Good luck

Huh, why manually lower the hammer on a 1911? I think that defeats the purpose of having one in the chamber as you would have to manually cock as you are drawing and all kinds of things can go wrong while trying "fine" motor skills under stress.

Much simpler and efficient to carry cocked and locked.

I only carry when my pants are on.

S&W J-frame 38, Airweight M38 Bodyguard. Front pants pocket in a pocket holster. 511 pants. Two Bianchi Speed Strips for reloads. +Ps.

Used to carry a 1911, IWB carry, Condition One, but too often it was not on my person.

I can lower the hammer and rely on double action with my P94 ruger 40 s&w but what a heavy weapon to conceil,makes me walk lopsided

For legal reasons I must carry concealed. Most of the time I carry my Sig P229 Legion DA/SA with Viridian X5L gen 3 light/laser/camera combo. I carry it in a hybrid kydex/leather IWB holster (or occasionally same type OWB). The camera and laser/light activate automatically upon unholstering. Should the horrible event occur and I was forced to use the firearm in self defence I’ll have a video proof of what happened. This might be important for the legal proceedings that would follow. In my jurisdiction they tend to be lengthy, extremely unpleasant and not necessarily fair. If attire allows it I’ll have a spare 18+2 MecGar Sig 226 mag. These work reliably in my P229 but are not an exact nor a flash fit. I carry the gun hammer down loaded 15+1 with Nosler Bonded +P 9mm ammo. I find the gun comfortable to carry in 3-4 o’clock position and only somewhat in a way in the sporty, bucket type seat of my car. The trigger is great with very short reset helping with quick follow up shots.


If my P229 is too large for what I’m wearing I’ll go with Sig P365 carried in AIWB holster. The gun has a dedicated P365 Viridian Reactor R5 laser mounted. This laser comes with DeSantis holster and is activated automatically upon unholstering. Sig P365 does not have a standard size rail so Picattiny accessories will not work (it’s not the Picatinny compatible “Sig rail” either, it’s a whole new thing!). I carry it with a 12 round mag. With the same Nosler +P ammo.


Then there are times when I feel like a really nice firearm and when clothing allows it (like a less fitted suit) I’ll carry my Kimber Custom Classic Carry Elite in one of the leather Galco made, Kimber branded holsters. This gun shoots great, looks nice and is a joy to handle. I load it with Hornady Critical Defense 45 ammo. There’s very little choice in self defence ammunition in this calibre in my area.


On an odd occasion when I just feel like a big gun on my hip I’ll carry a Sig P226 MK25 with a flush fitting 18rd mag or a (great shooting, butter smooth) Wilson Combat/Beretta Brigadier Tactical. These I carry in a Sickinger leather IWB holster.


And for animal defence I’ll carry 10mm Glock 20.

Well, this post turned out to be a lot longer than I expected. It’s possible I own more guns than I need. The above are just what I carry, I have some other dedicated range or “just because” guns too...

hot summer- .380 ruger lcp, cooler weather- 9mm s&w 3913, winter carry colt 1911 .45- s&s 624 .44 spl. ccw permits are must issue to legal people for 5 years at a time, but older(62) less than 10.00 for the 5 years.

I like your 5 inch 1911 very much.
Both of my 1911’s are similar to yours except that, I haven’t fitted my pistols with extra-large “safety” levers or exaggerated size controls of any description.
This does not make my pistols better or worse than other pistols, including yours.
It’s just my preference.

Neither do my 1911’s have rounded main spring housings/grip frames.
However, I have made sober threats to have both of mine rounded off, as I do prefer that modification, (some handguns are wisely factory designed that way) for concealed carry of major caliber pistols and revolvers.

Your brown leather holster shown with your 1911 is quite similar to my favorite concealed auto-pistol holster.
I have one for my 1911 .45 which of course also fits my 1911 .38 Super.
Likewise, I have the same style of holster to fit my Sig-Sauer P226.

Formerly, I owned two P226 pistols, one in .40 caliber and one in .357 Sig caliber.
Recently, I sold the .40, as it was made with large, sharp cornered lugs under the front part of the frame, just ahead of the trigger guard, making re-holstering a real struggle.
Glad to be rid of that square cornered mess.

Now, I only have kept my earlier model of P226 that, does not have those sharp cornered “anti-holstering lugs”.
And, I bought a Sig factory barrel in .40 caliber to fit this pistol.
So, my stash of .40 ammunition is not kept in vain.
Now, if only the frame were made of steel, I would have that ridiculous “halibut hook” ground off the front of my trigger guard hahahahaha ha.

Well anyway, the 1911, original 5” configuration is my favorite auto-pistol and I repeat that, your particular 1911 and aforementioned holster both, look like excellent ones to carry for things that go bump in the night.

I share your sentiment regarding the shape of Sig’s trigger guard, why they won’t change it or what it’s for I’ve no idea.

I do like 1911s although I only own two (for now ;-) ) I like the look of them, the shape and the angle of the handle as well as the triggers (on the ones I’ve shot anyway). My other 1911 is a heavy barrel sport pistol in 9x19 with a second slide/barrel in 22lr. Both of my 1911s are more accurate than I am. The second one has a straight mainspring housing and while inferior to carry I do find it a bit more comfortable to shoot. It also has hideous looking carbon fibre scales that I think I’ll change although they do offer a decent grip.



I’m not an expert and have no first hand knowledge in combat/defensive firearm use (I’d like to keep it that way too) but as much as I like 1911s I do think there might be better combat guns out there these days.

I carry a PPK with a laser grip. I would not carry anything that did not have a hammer. That way I know when the gun is hot. My eyes are too bad to be looking for a red dot know know if hot or not. And I will never carry a Glock.

What calibre is your PPK in? I’d love to get one in 380ACP but unfortunately they only sell 22lr version in Europe at the moment.

380 in Stainless.

Gotta be 1911 type. Mine are Sig 938 9mm and Kimber Aegis Elite Pro in 45acp.

Not real practical for concealed carry, but probably great for home defense:
