Why a .375 in North America?

Tomorrow I'll the proud owner of not one, but two 375 H&H. (y)(y)

Not unusual…. sounds like a double barrel rifle!

Ah , memories ! I miss these beauties so much . Younger sports men will never know , will they , four five eight ? The 300 grain .375 Holland & Holland magnum calibre Winchester Silvertip soft point bullets were dastardly effective for Asian Sloth Bears , during my career as a professional shikaree.
The Winchester Silvertip soft point bullet will always be my personal favorite expanding bullet of all time .
If l recall correctly , some Winchester Silvertip soft point cartridges used to have aluminum covered tips as well , in order to prevent deformation inside rifle magazines due to recoil .

Lmao fantastic post! Being the stereotypical gun slinging, right wing, anti government, Christian, toxically masculine male I am I hate that we live in a time where one has to “justify” owning anything especially a caliber or type of gun. my typical response is “because I F$&*ING want to” :)
I whole heartedly agree the 375 is a gateway drug tho. Although I was weird, I got a 416 first then a 375 and then a 9.3x74R. I looooove my 375 though. I shoot feral pigs with it all the time. I’ve killed a lot of whitetail and mule deer with it (loaded down with 250 gr bullets) and until I got my double rifle carried it as a backup on a heckava lot of hunts on my place for some of the animals that are less friendly than others. Of course I’m certainly no expert and I do know what opinions are like I personally think it’s the single most versatile and best all round caliber out there.

Major Khan, thought you might like to see these! They are in my collectible ammo display in a curio cabinet at home. Winchester certainly knew how to market with graphics second to none!

Here's a couple more of my favorites. Winchester 348 Silvertips for the Winchester Model 71

Any red-blooded American will take his .375 out to cull coyotes - most definitely delivers a decisive blow, and it is great rifle manipulation training for slaying cape buffalo!
Almost like rabbits with a 495 A-Square...:D
Stay frosty.

As far as cartridge choice is concerned, I prefer the 404 Jeffery, but the 375 magnum variations is more useful because of the significantly greater supply and diversity of bullet choices. As noted above there is the great SilverTip Additionally, every bullet maker large or small scale, inexpensive or super-premium makes a .375" bullet. Due to this availability the utility of the 375 included all game, great and small making the 375 a great choice for NA game.

Way back in the dark ages of the 50s when I was growing up, the biggest thing I saw was a 45-90 Win 1886. The original boomer. The big thing was 30-30 and 30-06. Now that you guys and your shoulder fired howitzers have scared the Bejesus out of me, I feel downright naked without my 9.3x62, 375HH and soon to be 404 Jeffery. I hesitate to consider taking my 7RM for pg for fear I'll be undergunned. But, as long as I have my trusty King of Rifles, I feel safe enough to venture forth in search of anything that walks, flies or crawls on this planet.

You mean like my .458 2.4 Elephant Gun?

It is the greatest cartridge of all time. How can you call yourself a rifleman and not own one (or two, possibly three), oh crap, I’ve got to stop drinking whiskey and browsing gunbroker...

Back in the early 90s my hunting/fishing partner and I did a diy float trip, four years in a row, on Kodiak Island. Each trip was 3 weeks in duration and the River was 85+ miles. The first year I took a 338 Win the next 3 years a 375 HH. Funny how much more secure I felt with the 375.

There needs to be at least one 375 in every town. It's best if there is more than one and better still if there are a few 404s and a 458 or two. Why? to prevent the town from rampaging elephants. I got a 375 several years ago and during that time there has been NOT ONE time where elephants chose our town to destroy. Not One time!! QED.

No doubt! That exact scenario played out in my little town in 1929, circus elephant went nuts! haha If someone would've had a .375 in a truck somewhere the outcome may have been a little different..

Some might not own a 375 H&H I feel sorry for them but who hates the 375 H&H? No one!
I have my 375 H&H for 26 years this year got it when I was 18 years, one day it will be my son's but only if I'm not breathing anymore.

Been there, done that and that is soooo true! One look at a fresh, large brown bear track on a sand bar and then you glance at your rifle and cartridge and think....."uhhh, not enough gun" :)
