Oh yeah! For the guy who has a five figure ammo budget! Awesome!

The B&M cartridges may work well in that platform.

Unfortunately they dont make them anymore, I was actually looking to see if I could find one a few weeks ago. They make it in the 300 win mag, but it just isn't the same.

Helluva hog buster.

That thing is a hoot! :)

One of the most fun conversions I ever saw as an M1 Garand converted to .35 Whelen. That thing, man, I was really tempted to do that conversion on my own Garand. Imagine all the pigs out there...BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM PING!!!

Naaah.
It's a push-feed so I don't want it.

:A Popcorn:

I understand there is a firm that makes a 458 Garand. Or the Canadians will make a barrel for your Garand in 9.3x62... Or here in Europe you can get a Browning BAR (Sporting rifle) in 9.3x62..?

Scrummy

I know of 2 semi automatic .458 Winchester magnum calibre rifles.
1 is a rebarrelled M1 Garand .
1 is a rebarrelled Browning BAR
. That looks really fun to try !

I recall an article about 30 years ago: BAR (Belgium, not the 1918) rebarrelled to 458 Win Mag. Not sure what the life expectancy of the rifle was.

Why do you say that? Handles 338 WM OK?

You could in theory convert an HCAR to .458 and dwarf the magazine capacity of the Nemo after modifying the 30 round magazines to fit .458. There would be a greater rifle weight as well so it would be all around shootable. The issue is the price tag for the donor gun and whether or not Ohio Ordnance is still actually making anything.

I've got a couple of M-1(s) laying around, the idea of a semi auto 35 Whelen intrigues me. Does anyone know if it involves more than a barrel swap?

There is an original prototype .458 BAR for sale right now on Gun Broker. Buy it!

It involves work on the op rod if you're going over 50,000 psi. You're going to 62,000 in the whelen.

Maybe not. In the 1985 NRA convention in Seattle I met with the Browning rep and asked why the 338 chambering had been discontinued from the BAR. He said that there were problems with it. So it appears that the action may not have been able to handle the heavier forces.
