375 Winchester Safari Express sling

I use a modified canvas MI Garand sling that has a thin piece of leather wrapped and sewn on to the shoulder area. I added detachable swivels. I like to carry mine conventionally depending on thickness and type of brush. But if "crowded" in tight formation and I need to control muzzle, can easily switch by loosening to carry muzzle down. Most of the time by adjusting slightly loose, I can grab the butt, pull it forward, then the rifle is slung under the arm pit and carried in a horizontal position for going under stick stuff. All depends on conditions and muzzle control for others.

Another thing to consider with a sling is to practice on sticks with the sling if you are going to use a sling with sticks. Not only how to quickly get the rifle into the best position on the sticks but removing the rifle from the sticks quickly for follow up if needed- without getting the sling tangled in the sticks! :)

VERY nice looking rifle! And your pictured sling is long enough to place your left arm through the sling and wrap it tightly to obtain a somewhat solid shooting position. Many slings are only suited for carrying the firearm. Having only hunted big game in the U.S., I always have a backpack strapped to my back, so the carrying of a rifle with a sling has always been problematic.

I’ve tried several synthetic slings and found them too slippery for shouldering. I only use leather slings with a suede finish on the inside.

Yes, it has quite a bit of adjustment in it. So can be used as hasty sling if needed. Absolutely agree about backpacks and rifle... just don't mix well. I know there are makers of special backpack attachments for rifles. Never tried one on my equipment but did strap on another's pack with rifle attached just to check it out. Seemed awkward or off balance or something... Plus, I like to have control of the rifle during spills, which will happen. But my mountain sheep, DIY caribou, etc. hunting is probably well behind me. :)

Another vote for the Trader Keith’s sling.

Trader Kieth style by a Texas company at half the price plus the hardware comes with it. The fabric is lighter than leather and coils up nice in the case.
Mine is adjusted so that I can let it hang or wrap my left arm in it for offhand shooting. For some reason, it just works better for me than most leather slings that I have used.

I give? Which Texas company? BTW, did you shoot someone’s goat in a pasture with an double express rifle? The photo is inconclusive? Ha! Ha!

CEH,
Not a goat, but a 300 pound red deer cow shot at approx 50 yards using .405 WCF DR and 300 grain Barnes TSX, which shot through the animal. Biggest problem was looking for a clear shot that would not kill two cows. The meat is excellent as the lawn-like pasture of coastal bermuda is in perfect condition. Yes, it is mowed regularly.

This was a short but fun and luxurious outing on a private south Texas ranch used for corporate personnel and their guests. Some folks play golf, but Texans go shoot things and there was a surplus of red deer. The game manager was our guide and he knew the ranch well. The "lodge" was a large luxury home decorated to the teeth. Good food too. The ranch roads were paved and the barn/cleaning area had a big cool room. I have hunted in only a couple of other ranches with a competitive package.

Bought the slings for my doubles from Versa Carry, a company in Bryan, Texas that makes leather products and a few other things. Occasionally they have a sale on a product I need/want and I get a bargain. They do not always have the slings in stock, but over the past few years, I have twice been able to buy them on sale.

Very cool animal and hunting digs! Of course, I was just joking about the goat part. I thought it might have been a small cow elk? Similar though. Anyway, congrats on taking that red deer with the .405 WCF DR (don’t see or hear about many of those?) and I bet the meat WAS very delicious! I’ll check out Versa Carry. Thanks!

Finally got my sling sorted. Very comfy. Ready for my first hunt of the year in 2 weeks time.

I have been very happy using this one. It carry’s my MRC very comfortably and I use the thumb hole often. A bit expensive, but I feel it is worth the cost to be comfortable.

Now I just need to sell maybe 18-20 of the others I’ve bought in my life.(n)

I think my problem came in with the barrel band, most slings are to wide on top and then that where you carry it with the barrel band then it is to wide on the shoulder.
