Knew I was in trouble when my better half asked why she couldn't have a rifle built for her. No good answer other then a "yes dear". Her caliber of choice was the 300 H&H.
Went with a VZ-24 for the heart of the build, Douglas AG barrel, NECG front/rear sights.
Grabbed a blank from Luxus because I was told my on hand blanks were not nice enough I guess...
LOP shortened up by 1/2" and a bit thinner in the wrist.
Without question it shoots great and she is doing her part both on the bench and on the sticks.

Dang Luxus does some nice wood. When I had my 1885 lowall made it got some Luxus walnut exhibition grade. Nice timber.
She now has an heirloom she can pass on to her kids. Very nice rifle.
To top it off get Damien Connelly to do some engraving on it.

It looks great! Could you explain the conversion process?

I'm assuming the VZ24 started life as a 8mm Mauser. Would a Persian Mauser also be a suitable option?

Very nicely done!

Wonderful rifle and chambered in Holland’s Super 30 makes it all that much better!

Wow your wife has great taste in fine wood and steel;)

I know very little in regards to Persian Mausers but assuming their not a soft metal action I sure wouldn't have an issue giving it a go.

Wow, beautiful rifle!!!! Kudus to your wife for such a fine taste in firearms. (y)(y)

What a beautiful rifle for a lady - and in such an elegant and evocative calibre too!! Shades of Hemingway and "The green hills of Africa" indeed!!

The Persian Mausers are essentially VZ24's made by BRNO for the Iranian government after WWI.. They are excellent military mausers..

If your M49 Persian Mauser is still in its original military configuration and has been well kept, I'd advise AGAINST sporterizing it.. Its actually got quite a bit of value in its military configuration.. there arent a lot of them left in the world, and collectors will pay a premium for them.. I've seen them go for well over $1K if they are pristine.. (far more than the cost of just finding a well made, pre-war German or Czech manufactured mauser action on gunbroker, which I have picked up for anywhere from $250-$350 at different times depending on condition)..

I've built 2x rifles on VZ24's and 3 more rifles on various other 98 Mauser actions.... IMO, the VZ24 (or Persian) are among the best actions money can buy.. great steel and extremely well made..

Nice rifle and the wood is very nice! She will see many years of good shooting with that rifle.

That is a very beautiful rifle and in a classic calibre . Your wife has very good taste ! I always hoped that a client would someday bring a .300 Holland & Holland magnum calibre rifle to India , but it was never to be , because ICI Kynoch was no longer manufacturing centre fire rifle cartridges in 1961 when l began my career as a professional shikaree .
How does the .300 Holland & Holland magnum compare to the .300 Winchester magnum cartridge ?
Also , was the cheek piece your idea or your wife's ? It is a splendid rifle.

Very classy (y)

Great looking rifle in a classic chambering.

VERY nice. Love how the pistol grip is more in the English style. I find it looks and feels more elegant. Has she shot it yet??
