(Jan. 22, 2020 - DALLAS) -- Everything at the 2020 DSC Convention, Heritage, was warm and welcoming despite the unwelcoming Texas weather. Attendees paid little attention to the tornado watch, the blue norther and the Saturday morning snow to swarm the show which featured more than 1,850 booths.

Many first-time attendees took advantage of the open-to-the-public expo. A record number of children attended with their parents and grandparents, which attests to the DSC convention's family friendly nature and the broad support for its mission of conservation, education and advocacy.

Exhibitors reported doing strong sometimes record-breaking sales, and the auctions brought in better-than-anticipated proceeds for DSC's mission and programs.

Saturday night's banquet program featured speakers Patrick Mavros, Michel Mantheakis and Buzz Charlton who spoke of how the DSC Foundation is poised to combat the forces that would destroy the hunting industry and hunting's significant impact on worldwide conservation. Many in the crowd stood up and chose to financially support the Foundation's efforts. Hunters everywhere are now activated to get this message across to the non-hunting public just as concerned about conservation as is the industry.

Speakers at the show included Robin and Pauline Hurt, Patrick Mavros, Michel Mantheakis, Danene van der Westhuizen, Scott Ellis, Debbie Peake, Catherine Semcer, Jim Shockey, Larry Weishuhn, Craig Boddington, Ron Spomer, Bob Foulkrod, Luke Clayton, Michael Sabbeth, Texas Game Wardens Lt. Steve Stapleton and Warden Randolph McGee, among others.

Award winners not previously announced included the winner of the Dave Baxter Literary Award, Dr. Ken Nelson, and winners of the Dixie Yeatts Award of Excellence, Abe and Tori Nayfa. Other winners recognized at the convention gala banquets were as follows:
  • Artist of the Year Award: Patrick Mavros
  • Colin Caruthers Young Hunter Award: Kaylee Ann Stacy
  • Conklin Award Winner: Alan Sackman
  • Dr. Bob Speegle Outstanding Hunting Achievement Award: Dr. Mark Wayne
  • Educator of the Year Award: Scott Jordan
  • Outfitter of the Year Award: Danielle Wilson of NewZealandHunting.com
  • Peter H. Capstick Hunting Heritage Award: Robin and Pauline Hurt

I had one day to visit. It was so large I didn’t know where to start. I was on a mission to see it all! I failed! I was there when the doors opened, didn’t stop for lunch and was kicked out at 5:30pm when they closed! Really really interesting. Incredible variety of booths. I hope to do this again and schedule at least three days . The AH get together was also great. Thanks to Jerome and others who put this together!
