TIPSTRIKE is developed for stopping power, combined with a penetration deep enough to reach the vital organs of the game. The polymer tip assures the expansion and gives a devastating shock effect due to the construction of the bullet jacket.

To maintain a high retention weight, the jacket is reinforced with a mechanical lock, thus making TIPSTRIKE an outstanding bullet for driven hunts and other forms of hunting where an immediate stop is crucial.

I have been using the TipStrike ammo for a few years now, it is a devastating drop to the shot kind of bullet. There is some serious damage if solid bone is hit, but the bullet has no problem with penetration even when encountering heavy bone. I have not had a exit wound on any game, energy is spilled in the vitals and causes havoc. I have not recovered a bullet yet, fragments yes. Accuracy is superb and advertised velocity in 308 and 30-06 is spot on in both my guns.
These boars I stalked the past week with the old ZG47 in 30-06. The big boar I got to meet up close today at around 7 meters.

plastic tipped hunting bullets:P Elmer Fudd:

I used Norma Plastic Tips in my original .308 Norma Mag factory ammo and I can tell you that they authoritatively put down every big Sambar that they hit.
I cant remember the designated name but they had a yellow p/tip.
I would use them every time if they were still about.

The Norma 2014 catalog called those bullets Plastic Point.

"PLASTIC POINT A bullet designed for the most rapid ’knock down’ of an animal possible. The bullet opens very quickly and fragments on passing through bone creating a plentiful supply of secondary projectiles for the maximum trauma possible. One might call it a ‘varmint’ bullet designed for big game, it is the perfect choice for hunters in areas where it is vital the animal does not move far after being hit. Of course, being quick opening and inclined to fragment penetration is limited. This is important when hunting in densely populated areas or on driven hunts where there are people or property beyond the game and it is important that there is a minimal chance of the bullet passing through the animal and also that a miss will break up on contact with a hard surface rather than ricochet. Retained bullet weight is typically 40-50% This is not the bullet for a serious trophy hunter who may be forced to take poor angle shots requiring a deep penetrating bullet or a meat hunter who expects to be able to ‘eat right up to the bullet hole’."

I purchased some Norma 160 grain Tipstrike 7mm-08 Remington factory ammo with published muzzle velocity of 2690 f/s and 7X64mm Brenneke ammo with published muzzle velocity of 2920 f/s. I hope to test them on Axis deer in 2020.

you might find 2920 optimistic in the 7x64 with 160 gn bullets at sane pressures with any sort of case life.

maybe they have found some new powder technology that is not available to the public.
interestingly the 280 rem has slightly greater powder capacity than the 7x64, so imagine what that would do.
3000 from a 140 gn and 2800 from a 160 gn can easily be had safely if you pick your powder.
what does norma 7mm rem mag 150 gn ammo do? (claimed)
there is a much greater powder capacity in the 7 mag.
the best I can get out of my 7mmstw is 3300 with 150 gn bullets, and 3200 with 160 gn. 26" barrel.
this with any sort of primer pocket life.

So is this a lead core bullet or a solid copper round? I’m a huuuge fan of the TTSX’s and wondering if these are Norma’s version of that. I’ve found the Barnes rounds expand quickly but stay together really well with near perfect weight retention but...... they can be a bit finicky in certain guns. If these were of similar design I’d be willing to try some in a few of my guns that don’t like the Barnes’s.

From my experience it is a very thin jacketed lead core bullet, but the lead is brittle, very brittle. This bullet cannot be put in the TTSX class, neither was it designed that way. Meat damage is excessive and that is being kind.
It is not uncommon to find lead shot size pieces of lead 15 inches away from bullet entry point, the bullet will break heavy bone on pigs and penetrait deep enough to cause havoc on the vitals. As said above, it was designed to have a drop to the shot effect and limit the possibility of a exit wound. For us hunting in smaller areas and often close to neighbors it is a good bullet.

thank you, it probably wouldn’t suit my needs then but I may look at other option offered by Norma. I’ve heard good things about their products and I love their brass.

Can't go wrong with any ammo of theirs loaded with Oryx bullets, vey very much like a Swift bullet, great penetration, expansion and weight retention. I have used Norma Ammo for the past 10 years, won't be switching anytime soon.
