Hello all, glad to be a part of the forum. I've been lurking around here on and off for years now, just reading posters' stories and looking at pictures. I decided to finally make an account after buying my first rifle, a Ruger American in 30-06. I've been a huge fisherman ever since I was a child and I've always wanted to get into hunting. After putting some time in at the range I plan on pursuing wild boar first and branching out from there. I look forward to being a part of this website and hope to post about my own hunting pursuits in the future.

Hello and welcome!

Welcome to AH!

Welcome!

Welcome Milt3006 to an excellent forum. I think you will learn a great deal from our many knowledgeable members. I think you have chosen a wonderful first rifle. Keep us posted on your hunting life journey! Thanks for joining and welcome again.

Milt3006, welcome to the AH forum! You couldn’t have picked a better cartridge to start out hunting. It is capable of taking most of the world’s animals. Just practice, practice, practice!

Welcome aboard Milt3006. Have you had the opportunity to shoot your new rifle yet? If so how did it shoot?
Please post a photo of the target (after you get it sighted in of course.) What kind of scope are you going to /did you put on it? Are you thinking about getting into reloading? Hog hunting can be a blast, but be careful those tusks are sharp.

I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet. A fishing buddy of mine is going to take me out to the range sometime this weekend or next to show me how to sight it and to teach me the basics. I put a 1-4x scope on it that I believe is designed for AR15s. I read around that a scope of this magnification would be ideal as most hogs will be around or within 100 yards.

I do plan on getting into reloading once I get more experience. I'm very excited to delve into all aspects of hunting and shooting.

Due to recommendations from a friend I plan on using Remington core-lokts
