First Double Rifle inbound!

Nice, what more can I say.

Nice looking gun. Hopefully not one of those Cabela's specials.

AH members and enablers...it is done. First double rifle is paid for and being shipped after Christmas. Many of you here provided the knowledge and experience needed for this purchase and I am very grateful for the information.

I always kept an eye out looking for the deal and was patient. A few deals fell thru over the last few months and I began speaking with Smith's about a shotgun conversion build. I had decided on an O/U as my personal preferences leaned that way. However, a rifle popped up that was also everything I had wanted, in a SXS.

A 2019 Sabatti Big Five EDL in 470NE. Regulated for Barnes and shoots the TBBC just as well, about 1" spread at 50 yards, ejectors, nice looking engraving, good wood, and came with pile of extras and only a few rounds down the tubes.

Congratulations on your new firearm. I noticed that you said “first” double. I take that to mean more are on the way! Fantastic purchase.

Nice looking rifle - enjoy!

No, the Cabelas guns were only the first Sabattis thay came in years ago. This is the latest model that was made in 2019. Funny enough, if you get a cabelas Sabatti for a steal, 800-1200 get it fixed and deregulated like the work Ken Owen was doing.

Everyone needs a classic vintage double in the assortment as well!

That's a beauty! Congrats!

Have you shot your double yet? If So what are your impressions ?

Hey Dave,

Unfortunately have not shot it yet. Its been a mixture of traveling for work and then raining when Ive been home here in NC. I'm back for a few weeks before I travel again so I'll be able to get out and shoot it now.

Fondling it over as "my own" has been incredible however. Snap caps have definitely received a workout while "pretend" stalking throughout the house at night...

Have a few rounds under the belt now, so I figured I'd give an update.

Having been my first DR owned, I have nothing to compare to other than others I have shot. My reactions to shooting this rifle are pure joy! This rifle is accurate and precise. While shooting anywhere from 40-50 yards, the groups are always no more than 2-3" apart. This is all done off hand, I have not used sticks yet or a rest. I'll be stretching it to 75 and 100 yards next weekend and hope to sight in the scope (Nikon African) in its Contessa mount and test for the rezero after dismount and remount.

At 12+ lbs, the recoil feels to me no more than my 550 in 416 Rigby. I'll need to shoot them one after the other to confirm though. However, Ive shot lightweight slug guns that kick worse. I can go thru 15-20 with just a sweatshirt on before I'm ready to pack it up.

My plan is to get another 40 or so rounds thru it and then focus on speeding up the reloads and doing some timed strings.

All in all, again for my first DR, Ive been very happy with its fit and function

Not to be crass but what did this beautiful gun cost please. Love the engraving. So awesome!!!

I dont mind at all. For the whole package; rifle, 2 boxes of ammunition, Nikon African scope, contessa mount with both 1" & 30mm rings, new galco sling, new NECG white bead sight, case. $5900 delivered.

What model Contessa Mount? I have a Model 92 and looking for a mount just like this vs putting picatinny rail that came with rifle on it. thanks!
