ive not met the animal that stands still long enough to admire a three shot group in its vitals, bullet terminal performance is more important than a tight group. just my opinion.

“On paper” referring to technical design of the cartridge. Cartridges like the 300 Win Mag obviously perform but the 308 Norma Mag is a better design. Timing, marketing, availability and other manufacturer missteps have ended or diminished the success of some designs before they got off their feet (244 Remington, 280 Remington, 264 Win Mag, etc).

@Standard Velocity, Love your new avatar! :E Big Grin:

In reference to the action, I used a M70 Classic action and retained the trigger group as well.
Winchester M70...shocker. :D

Make it out to the range with it this weekend?

Nope.
How does your Pops like it?
Won't see it until Tuesday, somehow my wife breached my vault without me knowing and placed a bow on it...
Next up is a 7x57 stalking rifle but using Code 27 Nazi stamped Mauser for the platform. Have a few blanks but want to find one with more marble cake. Hoping Dallas has one for me.

The 7x57 sounds like a lighweight build, good luck with it.
Have fun at the show.
One of these days we are gonna make it to DSC.

You could hunt with a rifle that shoots 2 Moa, add in some other factors in the field and you won’t be shooting as accurate as you were when things were favourable at the range. Miss the vitals and call it a gut shot.
Most of us are aspiring toward better accuracy from Bullets with good terminal performance.

gut shot and a killing vital shot is a hell of a lot different than two inches.

Sounds like you are assuming you were aiming dead center of the vitals. If you know the target anatomy intimately and it’s standing unobscured in the perfect position.
So a 2 Moa is now shooting 4 inches at 200 before any other factor like a poor rest, heavy breathing, wind or misjudged distance that might open the group considerably. That may easily be a gut shot or a non fatal shot that’s going to take some tracking.
Now 200 is a fair way and some shoot further competently. I expect rifle accuracy plays a part in this.
In the reloading thread a fellow wants to load a specific projectile because it’s accurate in his only hunting rifle a .45-70, a pretty heavy calibre with bullet options offering terminal performance . Of the 2 factory loads readily available to him one shoots nice little groups and the other doesn’t even rate for accuracy not matter how much damage it will do if it hits maybe 8” from the aiming point in any given direction, if he were shooting pigs it could be clear miss. Or a gut shot if it was a bit far back.
We should all be aspiring to get an accurate load with a hunting rifle and the correct projectile and use it well. If it saves gut shots or saves tracking there’s nothing with shooting little tiny groups from a hunting rifle if it’s capable.
As for the Pretty rifle pictured I hope it’s shoots little tiny groups with a suitable projectile as someone has gone to a lot of trouble to get a nice custom rifle. Built right it should be capable.

Beautiful rifle. Who did the barrel/sight work?
Thanks, a fellow out of Illinois has done all my metal work on 2 builds so far with one in the oven now.

I did a 358 NM build by rebarelling a CZ 550 Medium in 7mm Rem Mag. Wasn't much too it. Shoots really well.

Phhhhh.... those 35bores are useless.... should have gone with a 22mag build for DG!

Really nice looking rifle, hope it brings years of enjoyment brother.
35bore
I agree he should have gone the 22 mag. I'm sure you could find a use for that 35. Are you sure you need another one. Ha ha ha ha
Cheers mate Bob
