The Urban Man Eater

Stephen, even though you are correct that the picture IS a picture of a Jaguar, you are being very rude to a man who is gracious enough to take the time and effort to give us all a glimpse into the past...a time that is gone forever. Major Khan has seen and done things that will never be repeated. Who cares if he posted a pic of a Jaguar? Give him some respect and either read his story or don't.

PS: FWIW, you stated that "I know Leopards and I know Jaguars" but YOU need to do your homework because you don't know what you are talking about. Leopards and Jaguar are NOT the same "species" as you posted. They are a totally different animal. Leopard is Panthera Pardus and Jaguar is Panthera Onca. Panther was/is a term given to black Leopards.

Let's not derail this thread any longer so please don't respond.

Sorry to respond, but please read my posts more careful. I never wrote jaguars and leopards are the same species, I wrote that leopards and panthers are. Panther is not the term given to black leopards, panther is the name used for Panthera pardus in parts of Asia. If panther is the name used to a black leopard, than Major Khan would have posted a picture of a black one, wouldn't he?

@Daggaboy375 check the length of the picture in the last leopard photo and compare it with the first picture. Also check the size of the rosettes and compare if there are spots within the rosettes (as in the first picture) or not (as in the last one).

Now indeed, let's not derail it furhter and enjoy another of Major Khan's adventures!

Sounds like he lost his fear of man, I could see how that would be a very dangerous animal to deal with. I remember reading about the Panar leopard which tried to climb Jim Corbett’s tree. I would guess it makes the hunt more difficult.
Good story so far!
I can tell you right away , Master Smith. You have the keen analysis of a true hunter. You would make a great professional shikaree. I am an avid fan of Mr. Corbett’s exploits . His books gave me a fondness for the .450 / 400 Nitro Express double barreled rifle.

O, man... I am already joining "the dark side"!

Dear @Major Khan, we are eagerly waiting for your next post!
Nothing l write can be more exciting than seeing “ Luke , l am your father “ . I love the original Star Wars series very much , Mark Hunter.
I hope that you enjoy the rest of this story.

Your photo is of a jaguar, might want to change that to a photo of an actual panther from India.
I apologize sincerely for the misunderstanding. I took the 1st photograph from the internet after searching “ panther “ which l could find. I typically do not share the actual picture of any animal which l have killed , until the very end of the article , to keep a bit of suspense for those reading it. It all fairness , the mistake was mine and by the time l noticed it , it was already past the 30 minute mark we get to edit our posts.

I am touched , Shakaa by the amount of support that you have shown for me and the admiration that you have shown for my past exploits . It speaks volumes about the great human beings all the members of this site are .
The mistake was mine , because l took the 1st picture from the internet which l could find for reference , after typing “ panther “ . I only share the actual photograph of the animal which l have killed , at the end of the article ( like l did today ) to keep my readers in a bit of suspense until the ending . I believe it makes for a better formatted story to read. I hope that you enjoy the rest of the story . And please keep reading my articles always. I feel honored .

Poton and Kawshik, I've been remiss in not saying something that I've been thinking about for the past couple of months. It is an American expression of admiration so please don't be offended.

"YOU GUYS HAVE MORE BALLS THAN A BRASS MONKEY."

Some people would think that going into the bush, at night, after a wounded Leopard with a flashlight is nuts!
Shootist43 , l assure you . Far braver men than l exist ( Kawshik being 1 of them ) .
Perhaps the bravest of us all , was ironically Kawshik's girl friend considering what she accomplished .
Antora took a 200 pound panther by using 2 triple A cartridges in her father's shot gun .
And our friend , Captain Newaz will also join these forums after a few weeks . He makes me look like an imbecile.
He has killed 81 of these brutes and even featured in our local newspaper in 1985.

At the time , he had killed 73 of them .
I am really heart felt by your compliment . You are a good friend . I mean it . I do not consider every one friends so quickly .

Thank you so much for your kind words , my friend . But Antora and Captain Newaz were ( or are , in Newaz's case ) far braver than l ever was. Poton is being too modest . He is fearless . Sometime , you should hear the story from him about how he killed a crocodile which sank a boat . You will truly love that one .

Oh , by the way , Kawshik . I found an importer who can get us triple A cartridges . I bought 3 boxes today and l will give you 1 next week . Our worries are over .

Poton
How ? Where ? Details ! Christmas really is the time of miracles after all .Those gray leg geese will be sorry now !

Check this out , Kawshik .
2.5 inches long . It holds 40 pellets to the cartridge. Granted it is 4 pellets less than the old Eley Alphamax triple A cartridges which used to hold 44 pellets . But 40 pellets is still not bad .

Stephen, I stand corrected because I did misread your post and you are correct when you said that a Leopard and a Panther are the same species but be that as it may, the main reason that I responded to your post is because I think that it was unnecessary to correct an older gentleman who is giving us a rare gift by telling us his experiences into a world that will never be seen again

Sorry if I sounded harsh in my previous post

Thanks once again for another thrilling account of old India!!!

Once again you give us a wonderful hunting story of times past. Many of us wish we could of spent time with you in the forests of India when such animals could be hunted. Thanks for sharing.
Bruce
