Been a long wait getting the build finished up.
Decided to sacrifice one of the 338's to feed a 358 Norma build. Was asked several times during the planning why I choose 358 Norma and the answer was always the same, why the hell not..
Went with a Douglas a/g barrel and NECG was once again the go to for front/rear sights.
Grabbed a wood blank from fellow in Missouri that did the turning.
Hoping she shoots as well as I expect her to.
Will be turning the rifle over to my father for a Nilgai hunt and whatever else he would like to use it for.

Very handsome piece! Best of luck to your dad on the nilgai!

Nice looking rifle I just did a Douglas re barrel from 7mm rem to 338 Win

Very interesting cartridge choice. What will you load for it? How's she shooting?

Will work up a few different load sets using 225 and 250gr Partitions . Hoping to have some time at the range this weekend if all goes right.

Nice rifle.

On paper all of the Norma designs have a small advantage over the nearest competitor. The 300 Win Mag should have been superseded by the 308 Norma Mag.

if they are anything like 9.3mm partitions, it might pay to have some swifts loaded just in case.
bruce.
Good point, will see how they perform as well.

Nice, congrats on the addition!

Phhhhh.... those 35bores are useless.... should have gone with a 22mag build for DG!

Really nice looking rifle, hope it brings years of enjoyment brother.

Turned out very nicely

Beautiful polish on the wood.
Keep us posted on the range report.

Swing on down Eric and we can go poke a few holes.
Love to, but I've been working my ass off.
Have to see what the Spring holds, because that could be the first daylight I see.
Until then I will have to get by with just looking at your tiny little groups from your new rifle.

Not familiar with the .358 Norma, but it should easily kill even the largest Nilgai bull.
My son and I have taken Nilgai with .458 Socom, two with.405 WCF, and 45-90. My best hunting buddy took his big black bull with his 45-70. My .338 Mag took one too.
They are not that hard to kill, so your choice of Noslers should do the trick nicely.
They are good eating, so take care of the fresh meat.

PS Beautiful rifle!
PPS - I cannot see the action very well, can you tell me what it is?
BTW, where in Texas will you be hunting Nilgai?

@crs we have been looking at a place down by Raymondville.
Everyone I've spoken with all say they make great table fair so looking forward to that.
In reference to the action, I used a M70 Classic action and retained the trigger group as well.

Definitely a lot of them down there. A college buddy of mine had a ranch just south of Raymondville and he hated the Nilgai because they competed with his cattle for the grass. He was known for chasing them with his pickup. He actually hit one and learned that a rifle is better for Nilgai control.

Good choice for the action. Best of luck with your hunts.

Beautiful rifle, I'll bet your Dad is going to love it. I used a 35 Whelen on both of my trips to Africa. Don't overlook a 225 Gr. Barnes for your choice of bullets. All in all, I don't believe the .358(s) are too fussy they like the 250(s) as well.

I think he will be surprised to say the least. Should work wonders on his Nilgai as that was the only reason I had the rifle done. We both have numerous other calibers that would have worked but I'm always looking for a reason to buy/build another rifle....weakness at its finest!

ive not met the animal that stands still long enough to admire a three shot group in its vitals, bullet terminal performance is more important than a tight group. just my opinion.
