Hey all, the absolute best investment I ever made was in 2015 when I bought a pair of selous boots from Courteney. After many years of hard hunting all over the world they are starting to quite literally come apart at the stitching and the eyelets for the laces are about to give out. Has anyone had experience with returning their boots to Courteney for return?

thanks

After 4 years of hard use just buy a new pair.....and hang the old ones in the man cave.....or trophy room....

Yes Courteney will refurbish them, BUT they must be mailed to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

You've got that right! Many will be interested in experiences with and information about returns/rebuilds.

still have my 1st pair bought in 2002,in great shape,we have 4 pairs now.

I've had a pair of Safaris for a year and a half now. Use them every other day or so for everyday use, but for hunting only in the early season, when less wet. Great so far. Contemplating on getting a pair of Selous's and/or Vellies.

Courtney's are great for hunting in dry/moderate conditions.

Wet and cold conditions, there are better options.

You scared me I thought you were saying they were going out of business..

Yes I sent mine in recently for a service. They replaced the Tyre tread soles, the insoles, fixed up the stitching, and added new laces. They are basically like a new boot that fits like a glove. It was also very cheap.

Hi @ian-bradley Gail Rice will rebuild boots if there is something left to salvage, the issue is getting them into Bulawayo and then fetching them up from Bulawayo.

In the future, get into the habit of buying a pair every 1-2 years before the old ones have gone bad. My first pair was retired a few years ago with 40% life left in them and fully reconditioned. They are never worn by me except when hunting in Africa. I'm now breaking in another pair that will retire in 1-2 years. You want to retire the boots to permanent-hunting-duty-0nly before you wear them out on domestic use.

Just my opinion. I have 2 pairs of Selous and 2 pairs of shoes. My kids have 6 pairs of selous they keep hand-me-downing to one another. (they fight over the used ones, never the new ones in the box!)

Bought mine in Zim in 1996, still have them. At the rate that I wear them they should last about 3 lifetimes though. LOL.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Oh, yeah. They were $30 US at the time.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::D:rolleyes:o_O

I’ve bought a couple of pairs. We made a mistake and got the wrong size for my wife. We apologised and asked if we could buy another pair, the right size, saying we didn’t wish to exchange them as we’d used them - we were going to give them away to a friend and simply buy another pair. The Aussie distributor just ignored my emails, even though we wanted to just buy another pair. That’s enough to put me off buying more.

In my view they are ridiculously overpriced.

The cost and quality of the components are a bargain at $300. They make them by hand, less than 20 pairs a day. If you don’t like the price at $400-$800, you don’t have a problem with Courtney, you don’t like distributors jacking prices.

I have a pair of Courteney patrol and i'm thinking of buying a pair of selous.
The patrol i have are useless in wet conditions because the buffalo leather stretch
like rubber and the sole twist and ends up on the side of the foot.
I se that selous have a leather strip stitched on to the side of the foot so I guess
that will help a bit.
So,is it worth the money to upgrade to a pair of selous?
Or should I stick with the patrol?

I have 2 pair of custom selous in patrol height. Combat boot height omits need for gaiters and provides leg support.

Had an idea to put some leather hardener about an inch from the sole and up
on the side of the foot to get a bit more support but don't know if I dare.
Use leather hardener om buffalo leather when I make knife sheaths to get
it usable.

Try to contact the company in Zim. I was speaking with them about some aspect of the boot and they were responsive by email.
