Hi All,

I am considering booking an elk hunt through these guys for 2019 or 2020. has anyone used them in the past. They were recommended to me by someone but a single reference does not constitute a reliable review.
Thanks!

I have not hunted with them. I looked at them for a moose hunt this year but booked elsewhere. They have a good reputation from what I can tell. As I understand it the owners son and daughter have each won guide of the year in Wy. That is a good sign of a decent outfit. Hopefully you will some solid references.

I have a deposit down with Bald Mountain Outfitters for a future moose hunt. I "only" have 16 preference points, so not sure if I'll draw any time soon. Terry Pollard is the owner of Bald Mountain Outfitters, lives in Pinedale, and has been in business for a long time. Terry's son and daughter are both guides and have been Wyoming Guide of the Year. I think they'd do you a good job for an elk hunt.

Unless you are dead set on Wyoming, I'd suggest you take a look at Montana too. Since 2001, I've hunted about 9 times with Rising Son Outfitters (http://www.huntinginmontana.com/ ), just south of Livingston. I took my son-in-law on his first elk hunt this past November and he got an elk, plus a mule deer. I took a mule deer as well.

Thanks for all your input so far guys! I will look into Rising Son Outfitters too.

Just got back from my trip last week. No elk... But I rode around 40 miles on horseback! Had a good time. Terry Pollard and his crew were great! Here's a couple pics. Saw some good country and lots and lots of moose!

Would you hunt Elk with them again? Did you see any bull elk? What week did you hunt?
I would probably hunt with them again. We were hunting at the end of october and it was unseasonably warm, which didn't help the hunting. Yes we did see some bull elk but from 600-700 yards and they were moving. (about 300-400 yards further than I wanted to shoot at them). Terry and his crew were great and it was a really fun hunt even if we didn't get anything.

Well that says a lot. I am considering a hunt with them.

How was the camp? Condition of Tents, Cots etc. And the food?

I just got back from a hunt in a Pack Camp and the hunting was great but the hunters tents did not have a floor tarp, no chair in the tent to sit on while putting your boots on, no clothsline to dry things out on, wood stoves too small for the tent size. Cots so bad most hunters ended up just putting their sleeping bags on the ground (the one without a floor tarp)

Little things that just made camp less comfortable than it could have been. But I did get my elk

The camp we stayed at wasn't the high camp. It was the one on Burnt lake. It was very nice and the food was excellent. We did stop at the high camp (the tent camp) for a siesta one day and it was more rustic, but still nice. The tents were well kept and the cots were clean. There is a big tent for the mess hall (or there was when we were there). All the tents had woodstoves and the mess tent was so hot inside that I had to periodically go out and get some cooler air. All in all, I wouldn't have minded staying there, but the cabins were very nice as well.
