Ruger African 9.3x62 accuracy reports?

They are, but I do not believe we can get RWS in the states, only their down brand PRVI.

I gave New England Custom Gun a call, and they have EIGHT DIFFERENT RWS 9.3x62 LOADS IN STOCK! It is out of my price range, but they make fine ammo. I have several boxes of their last run of 10.75x68. If one is a handloader, there are some outstanding 9.3mm component bullets out there, and handloads can be assembled that outperform any factory load available. I prefer to load to C.I.P. standards with Hornady, Nosler, and Swift bullets in 250 and 286 grain weights. However, there are component bullets available from 230 to 320 grains, in a wide variety of construction. With carefully developed handloads, fired in modern rifles, loads can be assembled that are so close to the 9.3x64 Brenneke and 375 H&H that no big game animal would likely be able to tell the difference.

My lipsey ruger african is in 275 rigby, but it also has the very lightweight thin barrel. It's a so so shooter I guess but handles so great, so I can look past its accuracy a bit. Its slowly got down to around an 1 1/8" shooter. Some less some up to 1 1/2" sometimes. I've also bedded the recoil lug and free floated the barrel.

The above sounds like the 6.5 I had, note had. I did the same things you did, finally gave up. Any decent Swede should shoot MOA at very least and most will do better. Mine would not.

But I have all the Lipsey guns except the .223 (I don’t really count it in the series), so I have to keep them and keep buying them. Lol

Have used numerous boxes of the PRVI 9.3x62 in 286 grain....not bad ammo at all....shoots 1” to 1.5” groups at 100 yards consistently out my Mauser M12 Max...2”-3” groups at 200 yards....for inexpensive factory ammo, that’s not bad in my book. Haven’t used it on game, but I wouldn’t hesitate to do so on plains game or North American game. Would prefer to use premium ammo for anything dangerous, but so would anyone that values their hide. For clarification on the groups, that’s all within a circle that size in diameter.

I shoot down brands myself, just not PRVI. I have a Tikka T3X in 6.5x55. It's so accurate, I don't believe there's a Sako made I'd trade for it.

I was unaware that RWS and PRVI/PPU were related.o_O

I need any recommendations on the best accuracy any of you have achieved with this rifle and factory ammo. I am shooting Norma 286 gr and 232 grain. And and having trouble grouping with either weight bullet.

I have the 275 rigby african, and it is just now starting to tighten up after about 200 rounds. Hopefully the barrel just needs to smooth out.

My local dealer tells me that Lipsey’s has told him that the 2020 Lipsey’s Ruger African will be chambered in 35 Whelen. I would like to see it chambered in 318 Westley Richards, but unless someone like Hornady comes out with Factory ammo, I’m sure this will never happen. I can dream, guess!

P.S.

It would never happen, but Lipsey’s could offer a 318 W.R. package deal that includes a set of case forming dies and a Lee Precision bullet sizing die, so that folks can size down .338” 250 grain Hornady round nose bullets down to .330”.

I would be all in on this rifle in .318 Westley Richards. I actually have a military 98 Mauser action (Persian) laying about. I've had it for years and am going through one of my periodic "should I do something with it?" periods of indecision. Top of the list though would be seeing if a good smith could turn it into a .318 WR. I guess I'd worry about ammo later, though I do handload so I could manage, assuming I could find bullets.

Cup and core 250 grain .338” bullets can be swaged down with a simple die and a typical reloading press. 30-06 brass works great for making 318 brass.
I would use proper bullets from Woodleigh if I were to hunt tough animals, though. I believe Kynoch makes proper factory rounds. I wish Hornady would make components.

I am considering buying the Ruger African in 9.3x62 too. I don't think the lighter contour barrels mean much. Look at all the Husqvarna and Zastava's out there with sporter barrels. I am raising my eyebrow though with these somewhat "mediocre" accuracy reports. Any more experiences out there? Should I just buy a CZ 550 in .375 H&H?

I bought the Rigby Highland Stalker in 9.3x62. It shoots sub 1/2” at 100. Great trigger, butter smooth action. Beautiful rifle if it is an option for you.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
