375 H&H Factory Ammo for Buffalo?

Not sure where you are at, but MidwayUSA delivers via the internet.
Also, Swift A-Frames are available loaded by Swift.

My (untested ) personal thought is that the A-Frames will probably not open as wide as TBBC, 300 Woodleighs, or 300 Oryx. I'm being a bit simplistic, but less expansion should help penetration.

You needn't worry about expansion or penetration with any of the bullets you're looking at in my opinion. But I do believe in the A-Frame more so. The exposed lead virtually ensures it will expand, the heavy weight retention means momentum is maintained.

My advice is buy them and go hunting, I'd be shocked if you were less than happy with the results.

Thanks for the responses:)

Looking like it will be the A- Frames, based on the fact that there seem to be are far more sources of factory loaded A-Frames than anything else.

Understandably loads like this are a limited production run with Federal and not always available from Federal. If I can't run down some Federal, one of the other sources mentioned here should work. A bit if internet research shows that both Norma and Sako also load the 300 A-Frame in 375 H&H, and surely one of those should shoot well if I can't find the Federal. Anything Norma is hard to find near me, so that cuts out the 350 Woodleigh PH ammo, although if I was prepared to hand load for the 375, I would certainly try the 350.

And thanks for the info about the "trampoline effect". Makes sense to me.

Thanks again.(y)

Excellent choice, in the right place with a 300gr Swift A frame, the buffalo will be ITS.

*Yes, AFrames are first choice and if needed Superior ammo will custom load them.
You are missing the fun by not loading your own.

I agree with the 300 grain Swift A-Frame as my go to load with the 375 H&H. I had mine loaded by Pendleton Ammunition and they do a heck of a job.

Midway has Swift factory ammo available loaded with 300 grain A Frames, available right now. Not sure how it works to get delivered to Australia.....

When I was in Darwin Fishing and Outdoor World had Federal premium, can't remember if it was TBBC or A Frame but I do remember thinking "now why the hell didn't we have that at camp?"

The Outfitter has Federal blue box 270 grain softs that penetrated about 7". His logic was that his rifles were always sighted in with it, it's always available, and cheap.

Trouble was the rifle he handed me was shooting 8" high, and it took 7 shots to bring down a big bull water buffalo. Fortunately two things worked out... those buffalo are no where near as cantankerous and bloodthirsty as Cape buffalo, and we also had a 458 win mag in the truck, open sighted. So I got in close and shot the other 3 bulls with that. All good:)

Newby, just an FYI in my MRC 375 H&H the Swift factory loaded A-frame is the fastest factory 300 gr load I have found. Barnes was second. The Swift was 100 fps faster than any of the Federal. It would shoot 3 in under 3/4” at 100 meters. The Federal loading was just as accurate as well as the Barnes.
Best of luck finding what you need down under!

Used TBBC on my buff, it only took one shot.

I always use A-Frames on my .338WM and I´m very satisfied with their performance.

Thanks for the responses.

Unfortunately for us in Aus. options such the custom loaded ammo, Swift ammo and the likes of Midway are nothing but fantasy.:(:censored:

I'll start looking for some Norma or Sako loaded with the Swifts.

I have used Federal Premium TBBC, Swift A-Frame and Nosler Partition in my 375 H&H double rifle. All performed beautifully. I used the 300 gr. Trophy Bonded Bear Claw on Cape Buffalo last year.
I think as long as you stick with Federal (I know it's sometimes hard to find, but a Google search usually finds available ammo) you are fine. I tried Barnes, Hornady and Nosler brands in my Chapuis double and Federal just shot more accurately for me.
