This is why I try to go to the range once a year:

3 people plus me at the range

Guy 1 takes his rifle out of the case, points it downrange in the sandbags with 2 others down changing targets in that lane

15 minutes later during another target change Guy 2 takes his AR out of the case pointing downrange, puts it on the rest, loads the magazine, puts one in the chamber (still pointing downrange), and leaves the loaded rifle laying there pointing right at the others.

15 minutes during a change, guy 3 decides he is finished. So he grabs his rifle that's pointed downrange with everyone down there, snaps the trigger with it pointed at everyone, and puts it in the case.

I was 6 benches over and refused to go down...

:eek::eek::eek:

AAaahhhh! I feel your pain.

At the outdoor Archery range last week a guy started sending arrows while I was still pulling mine. I heard the arrow fly and hit the target only 3 yards from me. I looked up quickly and had to politely remind him not to shoot while I was down range. I’m really glad my son wasn’t downrange or I would have had a much harder time being polite.

That's where I like where I live. A 10 minute drive and I am on BLM ground with no one around during the week.

Now if I want to shoot on the weekend I would have to fight the motorcycle and ATV riders along those that are shooting their SKS's leaving trash all over the place

Wow. No range officer?

My range goes completely stupid for two weeks prior to Deer season, thats when I stay away

I think I'd find another place to shoot. Is there a DNR run range in your area? Even though they are open to the public, actions like the ones you mentioned are not likely to happen. Range Rules are posted and strictly adhered to.

That’s just ridiculous! Do you not have range officers? It’s guys like these who give the rest of us shooters a bad name. How can one be so dangerous and ignorant!

On gun ranges I attend in Sydney each time targets are changed all guns are put away in the stands, barrels up, with actions open. A range officer walks past, shining a torch into each and every action ensuring it is empty, only than do people go down range. When leaving guns on the bench during firing sessions actions must stay open.

Similar to situation at my range although not enough stands to put guns in during a cease fire. However there are multiple range officers who check all weapons on benches to ensure "actions are open and empty" as they say. And then there's no handling of firearms during the cease fire nor are you even to hang around your bench. You're either downrange or backed away.

Of course during every cease fire someone has to be an idiot and not follow the simple instructions, but there's a range officer watching.

This was at an unsupervised range. People are generally pretty good at yelling out when they want to go downrange, but every once in a while you will have the idiots at 25 yards just walking down while people at the 100 are shooting.

We do have a couple supervised public ranges - very strict - you can't even fire more than 1 round every 3 seconds. Safety is critically important there. I just don't care for the employees because they walk around with a chip on their shoulder. Like comedian Ron White says - bouncers just get together, talk about bouncing, and whack off to Roadhouse

It's a close call between the two ranges

Tou should have wrapped his bow around his head

I haven't gone to a public range in over 10 years and have no intention of going again. Too many idiots who don't know what "Range is cold" means and they don't secure their guns. I don't like bullets whistling over my head when I'm downrange pasting targets. Only happened once and the R O escorted the jackass off the range in a big hurry before the rest of us got to him ( range was cold). Since then I have my own little spots and I go out during the week when I know no one is around.

I've had a few close calls with LEOs and combat vets being the worst when it comes to safety. Before anyone gets their panties twisted, I spend two or three days at a member's only, private gun club and see this time and again. There's nothing like asking a guy if he's clear and he says yes, pulls the bolt back on his AR and ejects a loaded round. And chamber flags? Who needs 'em?

I see a common them involving safety violations and black guns!
Not sure I would go there @Wyatt Smith

My PH had a client who checked his rifle in the lodge, closed the action and pulled the trigger...firing a round into through the roof.
The following day the same client did the exact same thing, firing another round through the roof.
No one was injured in either case, but the client was forced to leave the lodge IMMEDIATELY!!!
No dinner, no sleep, do not pass go, do not collect $200...GET the F*%# OUT NOW!!!
The lodge manager threw him out for the safety of the staff and other clients in camp.

I don't think I would have waited for him to do it a second time, but I suppose they gave him the benefit of the doubt...until 24 hours later.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
Ross
