Politics

No it wasn’t your post. Don’t flatter yourself.
I’m not sure what I expected when I clicked on to that forum , but that wasn’t it.
I am after all an American that spent more than half my life in uniform, as many here have.
So again, don’t flatter yourself.
Well, you did quote my post specifically, so...???

Oh
Apparently it was my post you referenced above that pushed you over the edge? Interesting. Did you even take time to read the line of conversation, before and after?
I guess you could message Jerome and ask him to get rid of the Political Forum because you find some of the posts offensive.
Or you could exercise a modicum of adult self control and just not click on “Politics”.
But I like your first reaction the best, so I’d go with that one (y)
oh and by the way, I Agreed with your comment. My response just happen to post here.

When you specifically quote someone’s post, say “I am out” and that you are cancelling your account, that is generally a pretty strong indication you disagree with them and what they said has pissed you off and that individual whose post you’ve quoted is the primary driver in your decision to cancel your membership. That is certainly the way it comes across. What other possible conclusion is one supposed to reach? That is the genesis of this exchange and the reason for my tone with you. You can either recognize you created the issue here, own it and move on. Or not. Up to you, but it reflects poorly on you.
For my part, water under the bridge if you wish. It seems you were attempting to agree and it came across as the opposite. When I think someone is calling me out I sure as hell am going to respond. You were not and I hold no grudge.
Have a nice day and thank you for your service.

I’m totally lost on this one. Very sorry you were offended but no clue what offended you. I wish you well and hope you will reconsider.

OK I feel like everyone here is taking things way too personally. See I feel that the problem with poitical talk is that you lose your chill. Then when you have no chill, you get volatile. Happens to me a bunch.

@John Havard, this site has how many threads (@BRICKBURN?)? Almost all of them are related to hunting in one way or another. There is one that is related to politics. An infinitesimally small fraction of the total.

I would bet that many of us, if not all of us, could find something on this particular thread which we believe to be naive, stupid or offensive, or with which we disagree a bit or whole-heartedly.

But to "close my account immediately" because you don't agree with something on this particular thread? Or because you found something you didn't expect? With all due respect, seriously?

Our world faces many challenges. One of the most dangerous, in my view, is the unwillingness of an ever-increasing number of people to engage on any level with those with whom they disagree. Many are now taking this to the next level - they will not even listen to views or opinions which are not their own. Just like some pride themselves on never watching (or only watching) Fox News or only (or never) watching MSNBC.

This is a significant part of the issue in the world today. We refuse to expose ourselves to opinions with which we disagree and we won't engage if we find those on the other side, or their opinions or views, disagreeable or less than congenial to our delicate sensibilities. We insist on living in an echo chamber. The result of this is not only that many people hold frankly idiotic opinions which they couldn't justify if they were up against a high school debater, but they are absolutely convinced that they are right, if only because they've never heard an opinion to the contrary.

This does not bode well for our collective future.

Long, but good, interview.

I still doubt that a trade deal gets done, even a small one, and will believe it when I see it.

I find that there are people that make statements with which I never agree, some that I disagree part of the time, some are neither here nor there, some I generally agree with. I'm sill looking for the person with which I always agree but have not found him/her. But with all of these, there are other topics and activities that bring us together so there is no need to focus on things that may divide.

A child of the 40s I find that there were opinions that I held during earlier ages with which I totally disagree with now, so seeing the dynamic, how can I not be cordial to someone who may be holding the same opinions that I did when at his. her age?

Get over it and move on.

I have been gone a few days ( my cabin near Denali) and when I sign back in this is still going on. Talk about someone not liking an opinion.
I will not tolerate being chastised like a child. I have spent many years in the uniform of the United States Army defending my right, and most everyone’s right here, to all freedoms including the right to voice my opinion. When I made my statement it was because I was not, and will not, be associated with a group of adults bashing the United States.
If I had know that I would receive this much hate mail , I would have never voiced an opinion.
