Heym express 600 NE

Silly me, I thought agricultural crops needed to be planted far South of normal Moose habitat.

Well maybe I got the moose part a bit confused .. this deer looks exactly like moose only the antlers are different .. they are not like paddle shaped ..
We have a very short season here for growing agricultural crops .. winter time we hit -20 degrees Celsius .. most I have seen here -32 ... during summer we also see + 32 degrees Celsius.. almost the Same weather as in Canada .. my friends here hold a lease for a 40 000 acre forest for themselves... they let me hunt with them whenever I want .. they are right next to my fields so it is very convenient for me.. as you can see in the picture.. we could not find the moose / deer .. but I was lucky enough to stumble on this bad boy .. which was a big surprise for us all because there are almost no wild boars left in Russia at the moment because of the sickness they carry .. ( long story ) They are trying to prevent what happened in China .

In any case, it sounds like you had a good day hunting and a successful one at that.

Without getting too in depth, is the boar meat safe to eat?

Yes it is .. very tasty .. if you ask me beats dear meat in so many ways .. I will not even look at deer meat if I have wild boor meat available ..
 
Cem, what disease / sickness do the boar carry?

They carry a number of parasites such as Trichnosis roundworms or tapeworms such as Echinococcus granulosus. It is the parasites that are of the main concern to human health. Viruses such as African Swine Flu are harmless to human health although devastating to the animals in the wild and in the farms. Certain viruses such as Brucellosis can be harmful to humans but they are less common.
 
I am always astounded by the lack of fine gun knowledge on this site.

How one could tell another to contact the manufacture, "just because they are unfamiliar" instead of doing 10secs of research is foolish.

Hmmm...well as for me, I’m a hunter not a gun collector. In the USA I believe we tend to focus more on a working man’s gun and spend our money on a hunt instead of a fine gun. JMO, I could be mistaken when it comes to everyone else, but, me, I’d rather have a $10,000 hunt than a $10,000 rifle I’m afraid to take into the woods. JMO

Normally I would not bother answering to a comment like this one but ... since you are a 33 year old arrogant kid who has no knowledge on how the forums work I will try to be nice and explain..
I posted a picture of a rifle I thought was interesting when I was shopping.. my friends responded.. we are just having a conversation between friends .. shootist43 knows I have an Heym Expresss in 460 weatherby.. a much “finer” gun than the one we are currently talking about .. he also knows that I have contacted the manufacturer several times before .. and all this is posted in this forum ..this is just small talk between friends ..judging from your attitude I am guessing you do not have a lot of friends.. that’s what friends do sometimes.. by the way you would have to live another 33 years to reach shootist43 knowledge about guns .. even then I am not so sure because in my experience arrogant people can not be educated well because of their inability to listen..

there are a lot of discussions about Heym In this forum some serious some not ..
my advice to you is before opening your mouth is to stop and make your own RESEARCH before criticizing anybody ..
 
Cem, me, I’m just envious of your handsome Heym Express! I only wish I could afford those works of art as well as the hunts! But, at my age I’ll settle for seeing everyone else’s and just experience another hunt and dream of owning one of those!

@cem rona ergin i have nothing to add to this great conversation other than my American sensibilities about meat preparation. Most meat should be rare, pork medium-rare.

With that glorious wild boar you don’t have to worry about diseases. Research Sous Vide cooking. You can kill all disease without eating well done food.

Thank you for your kind words @rookhawk I also enjoy my meat rare .. I certainly will research Sous Vide cooking .. we only overcook the meat when we suspect brucellosis.. other than that you would have to shoot me to put a overcooked meat in my mouth:))

Trichninosis (and some other worms) can be tested for. In fact in Poland each and every pig, wild or farmed is by law tested for it. Over here it costs less than 10€ to test your boar and a number of vets provide the service. Most of the bugs are also destroyed by freezing. There are freeze tables available online for time/temperature necessary to kill parasites. For Trichinella spiralis it is 20 days at -15C, 24hrs at -30C and 2 minutes at -37C (the entire meat portion needs to be down to that temperature, it’s not enough to keep the meat in container so chilled). In Poland food safety is part of the compulsory hunter education, what’s it like in other countries? I know in OZ it’s not.

Sorry for hijacking this thread with this stuff but I reckon one can’t be too safe with meat. I find wild food is a fantastic way to promote hunting amongst those who are unconvinced about it but it won’t work if we give people bugs.

Re-reading my post I could see how it came off arrogant, that was not my intention and I apologize to the offended party if it was taken in a negative way. I should of elaborated more, I am passionate about German guns and sometimes passion gets the best of us, and I only wish that Americans would take the time to research these amazing pieces of functional art and become intimate with the skill, talent and history of them so they can pass the information along to our next generation or it will disappear forever. I just spent a day with a German Master Gunmaker, his skill and talent is incredible, 40hrs almost to make a single hammer! I should of done my part and encouraged the discussion on the Heym .600 its a remarkable weapon and on my "bucket list" if I could ever find one.
 
Jager01, you are a lot closer to German Master Gunmakers than I am. I do appreciate the ornate firearms they produce. Not being familiar with the 600 Heym Express I did try to find out some info about it. The American Distributor for Heym has a website showing the 2018 Catalog. There was no mention of a 600 NE as a standard offering. I did mention to Cem that it may have been a special run. The only somewhat ornate firearm that I own is a Drilling that was made in 1913. I suspect that it is a "Guild" Gun since there is no gunsmith's or manufacturer's name on it. I own a number of Walther and Hammerli 22 LR pistols that I use weekly in competition, one Mauser in 375 H&H, over a dozen 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mausers and several BRNOs but they probably don't count as "quality" firearms. BTW obtaining a really quality firearm is on my "bucket list" as well.
