Looking For Winchester 70 Stainless Classic 375 H&H

Toby, "Good things come to he who waits." Where did you finally find one?

On Gunbroker. There were actually two for sale at the same time. I bid on both, and for a second I thought I was going to win both! But luckily someone outbid me on the second one. The one I won is like new, and I got it for a decent price. Hopefully it will be to my liking. But, I'm already considering converting it to something bigger, if it turns out to be too heavy for a 375.

I think you will like the weight of it Toby. I love mine. Mine had been at the same gun show for almost two years in like new condition when I finally beat the guy down. I think he was just tired of packing it in and out of the show!

These seem to be a hot item at the moment. Every one I see for sale is gone in no time. Guess it's a sign that Winchester would do well to offer a stainless 375 again!

But I've created a new dilemma for myself now. THREE 375s to choose from! This is getting out of hand. I'm in need of intervention....
Don’t come to me for help, I’m at 9!

Toby, 3 isn't a problem. Just scope them all differently and possibly load different wt. bullets for the type of game and distances anticipated. Weather conditions might even play a part in your decision of which one to grab.

Problem is, you can only take one 375 to Africa at a time! Guess, you could have one for Africa, one for Alaska, and one for Australia. Haha!

The Winchester 70 Stainless 375 I got yesterday is very nice! Excellent feeling rifle. Weight is 8lbs 3oz. Sights are very nice, although I hope the flip down feature doesn't cause issues. Feeds and functions flawlessly. As smooth as I've ever felt. Looking forward to mounting a scope and testing accuracy.

Congratulations on your SS Classic .375.

I love mine. My brother bought it new. Apparently it recoiled too much for him. I did epoxy some lead shot in the butt to get balance right for me. The additional weight didn’t hurt either.

On my list of things to do is find a synthetic stock with a longer length of pull to fit me a little better.

I traded a Smith 629 Classic Hunter in 44 mag for mine. Still happy.

I want to put better composite stock on mine, the factory stock just feels cheesy as hell!

I like these rifles. The present one dressed to hunt that I have, has the flip down sights. I also have one with the fixed rear like on the Safari Express M70.
The flip down is an earlier model run. It appears to have a slighter heavier barrel contour at muzzle end than later runs.
I had the barrel cut to 22", barrel band sling stud installed, McMillan dark Mac Woody stock with mag fill in the action area, molded in color fiberglass stock bedded with stainless PTG Onerndorf one piece bottom metal, Talley stainless steel bases and screw lock detachable rings with a 1-6 Swarovski, factory sights.
It ain't a lightweight. On my scales today, 10 pounds 1.5 ounces. It still carries well enough and feels good to me when shouldering.
I have one of these re-barreled to 416 Rem, 22", older H-S Precision stock, factory 2 piece bottom metal, barrel band sling stud, same bases and rings, with a 1.1-4x24 Schmidt & Bender. It weighs 9 pounds 14.1 ounces, 3.4 ounces less than the 375,
Both actions function extremely well.
**IF it does not group well, check the bedding. These have the hot glue bedding. With age it releases its grip on the slick plastic. Sometimes it also becomes brittle, and removing and re-installing the barreled action breaks its bond to the stock **

The 375 H&H is on top and the 416 Remington on the bottom. The 416 has been CeraKoted. The 375's stock is in the Supergrade style with cheek piece.

If I recall correctly, the stainless 416 Rem Mags were a Winchester Custom Shop run. The ones that I recall had nice walnut stocks. They were out of my economic reach at that time. I use to see one occasionally for sale in the internet classifieds / sale houses.
But, since that was an actual custom shop you could probably get a McMillan synthetic on them also. At times Winchester used McMillan stocks on some of their factory offerings.
I like the stainless steel M70 classics a lot.

I've read somewhere that Winchester made a few Stainless rifles in 416 Rem Mag at one point, but I've never seen one.
