Big Bore Addiction Group

In my original post I stayer with bolt actions, 375 and over. I’ve added a 585 HE. I also have a few 9.3’s 2 -9.3x62, 2 -9.3 x74 a 9.3x66 and a 9.3 x64. In lever guns 5- 45/70 a 50 Alaskan a 450 Marlin 3- 405 Win . Single shots 405 Winchester, 400/450 a 500/450 and 3-45/70. In hand guns I’ll stay above 45 cal, 480 Ruger, 454 Casull, 2-460 S&W and a 500 S&W. I also have a 43 Mauser and a Lee Enfield in 45/70

I'm not in to bad of shape yet.
Ruger No. 1 450/400 nitro express
Ruger Model 77 Alaskan 375 Ruger
I like to have a double in 450 nitro express because of all the 45 caliber bullets.

I’ve added a 585 HE.

We need to talk!

Just added one of those myself, and am compiling load data...

Got some you wanna trade?

I’m not in horrible shape just yet... but the condition is definitely getting worse..

It all started with the .375 H&H about three years ago...

Then I found myself in desperate need to get into the +40 game... so I built a 416 Taylor...

And now I’ve added a .585 HE...

I am truly terrified at what comes next... 600 NE???

Help!

@mdwest I am building a 8 bore muzzle loader and have a second barrel stashed:whistle: Looks like I am back to being a bad influence:cool:

:)

I’ve added 416 Remington magnum - loading up 400 grain hydros (Woodleigh).

Gentlemen, and I use that term loosely. I am happy to report that I am getting the help I need but I had a relapse. I sold my Blaser s2 in 500ne!. But I promptly relapse and put it into a blaser r8 in .458 Lott. Thus big bore collection includes:

Cz in 375 h&h
Krieghoffdouble in 500/416ne
Blaser r8 in 458 Lott and some other calibers.

I am back on track and just trying to hold with what I got.

I am in the process of getting the kreighoff regulated for Swift a-frames in 400 grains. Done with woodleigh softs

I can't believe I missed this thread.
Regarding your addiction: I'm afraid you're doomed. There is no cure.
I caught the "disease" prior to my first trip to Africa.
My fix, so to speak, was the Blaser set below.
Top to bottom:
  1. .375 H&H Safari barrel
  2. Zeiss Victory HT 1.5-6x42 rail mount, Reticle 69
  3. .300 WM Safari barrel
  4. Zeiss Victory Diavari 4-16x50 T* Rapid Z8 reticle
  5. Blaser Kilombero

glad to see someone brought this thread back. sadly ive added nothing new, mostly because money has been extremely tight.

once my money situation gets sorted out i plan on having either a 577 tyrannosaur or a 585 HE built for me by AHR. i also still have the dream of a 8 bore paradox double but that may forever remain a dream.

I would love to join this addiction group, but the most powerful gun i own is a .300 WSM...:( big bore stuff is expensive as hell in norway..

You mean firearms or ammo? Is it difficulty for you to import firearms from EU?

I'd love a 450-400 ne one day but having never shot anything bigger than a 9.3x62 (shoot that fine) I don't know how I'd handle it.

I've got a 470NE that I've learnt to control. I've got a set of 9.3x74R barrels for the same rifle and the recoil is significantly different but definitely it is something that with practise one can learn to deal with. I have never shot the NE barrels of the sitting bench and doubt I ever will because I don't want to torture myself. On the other hand the 9.3 of the bench is not bad, rimfire it is not but does not kick like a mule either. I think most people can learn to shoot 470NE, it just takes time as you should only fire a few rounds in a single session. Can't really speed it up.

not sure your laws on hand loading, but its pretty much required to shoot large bore guns.

450/400 is in the same ball park as the 375 H&H, its surprisingly easy to shoot both of these cartridges out of a properly made (weight and balance) rifle. as @Opposite Pole says though, id avoid shooting off a bench unless you enjoy pain.
