Elephant hunting: explaining the benefits

Now if an African country were to have it stipulated that you have to hunt elephant before you can take DG or PG. That would be the hunting rules for that country and hunters would make plans along those lines. I know i would. As we do in the states for doe or cow licenses the same could be copied over in Africa. The issues would be with our state department letting us return with a portion of our non-trophy trophy, Like Ear, tusk, tail, or skin, i can hear the anti humming now..

It is no difference that Many states that saying you have to harvest 1 or 2 does before you can go after a buck Deer. Or where you have to shoot 1 or 2 Doe goats (antelope) before going after a buck. Hunters do it all the time... When you known rules you work them into your planning.

James.

:Mr Grage, says here you want to come to our country and hunt these 10 PG species, fine, you go shoot me two elephants and your permits will be right here waiting for you"

What are you going to say?

Again, as God as my witness I have had this conversation with "anti's" or worse yet "the indifferent"

point #1 : aerial analysis estimates that going into the winter I have browse and forage to support X number of deer through the Winter if the Spring rains come on;

point #2 : an accurate line count shows there to be a deer population of 2X

Summary Fact: If nothing is done, 1/2 will die and all will suffer

My solution: selectively cull 1/2 the herd before Winter sets

Anti's solution: supplemental feeding to support the herd with no mention of who pays the bill for that, what happens in the Spring or more importantly what happens next Winter....an impractical solution at best that does nothing more than make the situation worse.

Indifferent solution: let nature take its course, do nothing making no mention of the damage that this course of action will inflict upon range conditions and, of course, leaving out the fact that "they" will not be present to watch the suffering and resultant deaths from starvation

As I have said, I have suffered with these people for some time now and have come to several inescapable conclusions about them:
#1 their biggest problem is that they confuse propaganda with information;

#2 they are stand squarely at the apex of hypocrisy as they profess their undying "love" of nature and wildlife but are more than willing to allow them to suffer and die to preserve their political position;

#3 they are stupid. In the face of overwhelming facts born of actual field experience and case study they will cling desperately to an unsupported but politically correct position re-enforced by peer pressure and convenience

For the life of me, I sometimes wonder which "herd" we need to cull first

Second Wind i agree with you

Enjoying the banter but it hasn't really added anything to the questions raised in he original post. We're already paying money to hunt elephant today

How are elephant hunting quotas determined?

What is the government office that is responsible for selling elephant quota and is it auctioned?

Which countries contribute a portion of these funds to anti-poaching patrols? Or is this purely the realm of the private game reserve?

How do local communities get their share from these funds? How are the funds distributed and who administers this process?
