To me , Hunting ethics is basically this : Quick Kill , preferably one shot :D
I prefer the double lung shot over all others due to the wide Target the critter offers for a broadside shot. Not as ambitious as a brain shot , but it works every time !

Between Blaser and Rigby , l would go for Rigby if l was shooting fmj solids . If l were using Monolithic meplat brass Solids , l would use Blaser :)
English gun makers loath the Monolithic solid design .
For me , as l prefer Monolithic meplat brass Solids , Blaser all the way . Their R8 in .500 Jeffery is a beast ! :D

If I could afford to get a blaser I would simply for the ease of transport with different calibre barrels on one action/stock set even if I think a classic bolt action rigby or mauser is more aesthetically pleasing.
For now though I'll stick with my sako and old military mausers.
@PaulT I’m calling in the Aussies, it’s a weekend. Any comments on Fine rifles?
I think the Dr is a Winchester man Fromm a previous post.

for those who like the rigby but want takedown,
look at the Dakota website and find the traveller.
takedown and with extra barrels, and every bit the gun that rigby is.
would be interesting to do an apples vs apples comparison on rigby, the new mauser, and Dakota.
they also do some 404s for those who must have one.
I think many of the Dakota cartridges share the 404 boltface.
they also do the lott and 416 rem and rigby.
bruce.

Found it!
Nice, but it’s in that funny currency that stuffs prices up. 7 years ago when our $ equaled yours would have been the time to buy or invest in funny money. Of course I didn’t have spare cash then
I sort of dreamed of takedowns as a kid when I read gun magazines and dreamed I would one day hunt Africa taking my own rifles.
I have a compromise , I’m going to Africa on what just one nice setup would cost. That’s a start.

Dont know about british bolt rifles but my ZKK 602 eats mono brass solids with ease...strange argument..

So does mine ! :D
I own a BRNO ZKK -602 in .375 HH Magnum too :)
But they are Czechoslovakian guns , aren't they ? I have a letter from George Gibbs Gunmakers who speak horror stories about Monolithic bullets . If you want , l can inbox you :)

Must be a Gibbs thing or perhaps related to using them in old double rifles..? The people at Rigbys spoke favourably of using monos in their bolt rifles..

I have inboxed you the letter :)
Can we all see it can you start a thread?
Sounds odd like I’d hate to think a fine rifle has a soft barrel or won’t work with these modern Bullets that are becoming more common. I want to use Woodleigh Hydrostatics in My CZ550
Can anyone else elaborate?

Even Purdey has caved in and launched an entry level o/u shotgun model that is more or less made by Perugini&Visini...lovely gun, wieved and shot it recently...apparently the management demanded it to boost sales.. It is wise that Rigby and now Purdey (to a lesser extent..) climb down and make guns and rifles that less well healed can afford and use..and still keep making best guns..
The Rigby Highland Stalker is a gem...

Actually H&H went down this path with the sporting o/u in the ‘80’s. It came in at less than half the cost of a Royal. Westley Richards branded some very questionable shotguns from another manufacturer somewhere around the same time. The current Rigby offering is by far the most successful such venture I have seen to date although the sporting o/u is still in the H&H line up.

If you’ve got the patience to deal with them. I finally cancelled an order one year after the promised delivery date. They make a great rifle but I think things have been a bit of a mess over there since Remington bought them.

So now I’ve found a Strasser straight pull. Anyone know these?

....except all the monometal bullets I have used were fractionally undersized...

Someone is trying to sell something.

edit: does anyone care what Hunter used in the 50s, when trying to decide what to use today?

Until you have a Blaser you just don’t know or understand what it has to offer. There is simply nothing like it. I am working with my new R8 and hope to post about it soon. So those that don’t own a Blaser really can’t comment on this. What I mean is it’s complicated! Not trying to be insulting.
Philip

Phillip I can comment all I want as that's what the op asked for......:D......as I have said I don't like the way they look or feel...... Nothing to do with how effective or modern they are.....I am not going to buy something that's not to my liking however great it is......there are Cars that are technically advanced and very fast....example a Nissan GTR......very hi tech and very fast on road and track......probably the car equivalent of a blaser R8 but I would never think of getting one as they to me are ugly and don't do anything for me compared to lambos... Porsche... Ferrari....Aston Martin.... So yeah each to his own....but give me something lovely to look at and use that works very well as opposed to something that doesn't do anything for me at all...regardless of how efficient and technically advanced it is......:D Beers:

No sane man should. Monolithic bullets aren't just a tad. They are practical ! :)
Also , his example of John A Hunter is not a very good example. John A Hunter discarded the .505 Gibbs Magnum as soon as he got a double in .500 NE
