Hello all. I've been reading posts for awhile and finally joined up. Born and raised in South Dakota and never left. Ringneck pheasant capital of the world at least according to our Dept. of tourism.
Have done some hunting in Canada and some states surrounding SoDak. Also have a few South Africa trips to Eastern Cape, Limpopo, and Free State. Plan on getting back there end of May 2020 for 10 days with KMG. Really looking forward to that. Started hunting deer in 1967 and haven't missed a season yet.

Welcome to AH John! Nice to have you join the conversation and looking forward to your participation.

Welcome to AH!

Welcome aboard John. What species have you taken previously? What is on the menu for 2020? Did you take your own rifles to Africa? If so, what caliber(s)? Do you reload?

Welcome to AH!

Welcome John to AH! It sounds like you’ve had some Africa adventures! How about sharing some?

First trip my son and I took was in 2012 to Eastern Cape. After the flight over my son said this better be good to make it worth that. We were planning another trip back on the flight home and agreed 7 days was not long enough. Good learning trip.
2014 went to Limpopo for 10 days at Cruiser Safaris and took our own guns this time. 30-06 for my son and 35 Whelen for me. Highly recommend Whelen and Cruiser Safaris. 15 1/2" bushbuck was probably my favorite there.
2017 "She Who Must Be Obeyed" and I went back to Cruiser for 7 days in Limpopo and 3 days in the Free State. Rented guns. She had never shot an animal before and said she would try but didn't want to shoot anything "pretty" said a warthog would be ugly enough to shoot. after one evening sit where nothing showed we went out the next morning an old impala showed up. PH Craig says how about an impala? She said ok, bang, dropped in his tracks. A worn down 23" with 6 1/4" bases old ram. Next morning she shot an ugly faced warthog. She was using the owners .243 Blazer with Zeiss scope.
2020 going back and she wants to shoot all pretty stuff, nyala, bushbuck, and springbuck. I'm looking for sable, lechwe, vaal rhebuck, mountain reedbuck, caracal and baboon.
The flights are still a bugger though!

Leave us a few critters for our arrival later in the winter...

Good luck.

Oh yes! It takes me a month just to recover! I definitely agree 7 days is way to short for that flight! If I could afford it, 21-30 days would be much better!

Welcome to AH!

Welcome! What part of SD? My wife was born in Rapid and has or had family in and around Spearfish.

I'm retired now and live in the Black Hills about 15 minutes west of Rapid. I moved here to be close to the grandkids 4 years ago.
Grew up in the north central part of the state. I have some land back there and spend time there either hunting white tails, waterfowl, or pheasants. Have my land in the CRP program and put in food plots. I enjoy checking trail cameras and all the stuff that goes with improving the hunting for the grandson, son, and myself.

As soon as I win the lottery my hunts will change!! Have to play though. Always a catch.

Welcome to AH John! Nice to have you as part of our community, really looking forward to your input.
