Does anyone know hntr58

I had a similar incident this week where a car dealership's emails were hacked. When I paid over my deposit they sent me falsified bank letters etc. Even edited my proof of payment I had the bank send to my dealership

I would be on my way to MLK Blvd in Salisbury, NC and beating knee caps in until someone ponies up my money! We could make a field trip out of it! This kind of shit really pisses me off! Sorry this happened Ken!

Still trying to figure out how it happened. Did this POS contact you with a PM or email w/r to the rifle?

He was not the person who contacted me his account was hacked.

Hi Ken, Firstly let me say that I'm very sorry that something like this has happened to you.

As I posted earlier @hntr58 account was not hacked. If you look at the thread from @hntr58 for the Remington 700 Custom Shop Left Hand 458 Win Mag (https://www.africahunting.com/threads/remington-700-custom-shop-left-hand-458-win-mag.26178/) you will see that @hntr58 confirms the sale of his rifle on March 19, 2016.

Ken you posted your email address in the thread on September 3, 2019 which is against the rules for several reason and I moderated the thread to remove your email address from your post. However once you posted your email address, although it was not visible for long, anyone who saw it could have contacted you and misrepresented themselves as the seller which in my opinion appears to have happened. No one on AH was hacked, not your account or @hntr58 member's account. See your post that I edited for privacy reasons at the following link: https://www.africahunting.com/threa...shop-left-hand-458-win-mag.26178/#post-574067

As per our Posting Guidelines at https://www.africahunting.com/help/guidelines, see below screenshot and I would like to remind everyone putting your personal information on any website is an absolutely terrible idea as it opens you up to a variety of scams that occur across the internet.

What a goat rope! As you stated im sure your
$ is long gone but damn if I wouldn't continue to find this POS with a little hope of a recovery.

NEVER buy anything of any large value without talking to the person on the phone. Another site I belong to has had a rash of fraudulent scope sales. One scammer was on the site for a year before pulling off the fraud. The buyer lost around 1k. The best setup for a fraudster is when a member posts a Want To Buy ad. It's a perfect setup for a scammer. Aside that, you bought a rifle off the internet and never talked to the guy? SMH.

Googled the address and apparently it's a real place.

I'm unable to follow the transaction. the original owner of the rifle (#1) advertised the rifle and it is sold to the purchaser (#2); then the new buyer (#3) sends money to the new seller (#4) thinking that #4 is really #1. Naturally, #4 does not send the rifle to #1. So how did #4 contact #1 to offer the rifle for sale?

Did an address check. 711 MLK Jr. Ave is S the address for those Section 8 housing mailboxes. The check site stated "Ste or Apartment number missing". Property owner, Housing Authority, Salisbury. My guess is the payment was sent to someone with access to a box there and left off the apartment number. Any attempt to get restitution or file charges will be an exercise in futility. Consider it a lesson learned and move on. That money and the perp are long gone.

Ugh! This just chaps me! If someone is smart enough to pull off these scams, they would probably be good in politics! They could make lots more money. Get free health care. Get great retirement at a young age. Travel all over the world on tax payer’s dollars. Etc.

I don’t mean to make light your loss Ken. It really scares me just knowing lurkers are just waiting to pounce at any moment.

Had a similar thing happen on a well known gun listing, auction site, called now GunAuction, used to be AuctionArms. Seller listed a Remington 1858 BP revolver new for $200. Sent payment, last I heard, "getting ready to ship".
Never saw or heard from the guy again, the site was no help at all, just too bad Charlie! A friend said what Hogpatrol said. "You just took a course in fraud on the internet, the cost of the course was $200". I have to agree, the chances of any kind of satisfaction are pretty slim. Sorry this happened.

Wow there are scams everywhere. I’m just glad this was not someone On AH that did this. I appreciate Jerome’s response and information.

@KencoArms : I'd suggest phoning the Salisbury police department and/or the county sheriff's department and filing a report. It's possible that when this dude attempts to cash your check, he'll show up on a security video and might get identified. An IT forensic tech can also trace the email and PC.

In that few minutes before Jerome was able to remove that personal information someone was quick enough to grab your email address and pose as someone else and offer "you a deal", using that email address.

Everyone: Read the entire thread before you start posting. It might save you some headaches.

The ITEM WAS SOLD YEARS AGO.

THE AH PM SYSTEM IS SECURE.

The Fraudulent Seller DID NOT CONTACT ANYONE THROUGH THE AH PM SYSTEM. PERIOD. END OF STORY.

The fraudester used the publicly posted email address provided by the victim and then the victim made assumptions from that point on, including assuming that AH had been hacked.

I am constantly editing members personal information out of photos.
Entire names, addresses and phone numbers off of crates and shipping labels in photos.

Sad to see this happen to anyone.

Keep your stick on the ice people!

Before you buy something of any high value off of the web, ask if there can be a local pickup. If the buyers says no, run Forrest, run.

??? Is that a hockey expression?

Yes.

The most basic and important piece of advice in hockey (and maybe even in life).

Also possibly the most repeated advice from coaches, often screamed in frustration when some knob misses an easy tip into a wide open net because his/her stick is nowhere near the ice, or the goalie lets in a soft five-hole goal for the same reason.

First, be ready for anything. Hockey is fast and the difference in a one-goal game could be the result of your stick placement (applies to everyone, goalies included).
