9-11 Where were you?

I have kept this newspaper in my briefcase for 18 years!

On my way to work in my precinct in Manhattan, saw the second plane hit Tower Two from the 59th St Bridge and had a very long day at work. Lost 23 of my own that day, and we lose more and more to 9/11 related cancer every year.

On this, another date that will live in infamy where were you? I was on a plane heading for Mexico. We landed in Houston and I was enroute to the gate for my International flight when the "news" was flashed on the TV screens. I watched as the second plane went into the towers. All flights were grounded and after several days we were able to rent a mini-van that my collogues and I drove back to Michigan.

I was on a project in Farmington Hills, just outside Detroit. Took me almost a week to get a plane back to Houston.

I was walking through the hotel lobby when I heard somebody say something about "a plane ran into WTC." I figured Cessna or something. Couple seconds later, I'm watching the second strike.

I have several copies of the same basic paper except from Kentucky. I agree with the Darryl Worley song, Have you forgotten!
They took all the footage off my TV, said it's to disturbing for you and me. it'll just breed anger, that's what the expert's say.
If it was up to me I'd show it every day!!!!!

Righteous anger! And it doesn’t need to be bred, it exists and was created by the acts of our enemies!

I was on Vermejo Park Ranch running a blender on a frac crew. We just finished the 2nd stage of a 3 stage gas well waiting for the perforator crew to set a plug so we could move up hole. One of the guys came on the radio headset and said we’d been “bombed or something”. We turned on the radio in the frac van about the time the second plane hit. We went home early that day and when I watched the TV I was in complete disbelief.

I was in college, in class. As class got out someone in the back said something about a plane hitting WYC and I figured it was a small prop plane or something. Walked back to my apt and my roommate had the TV in the news. Absolutely floored and knew war was on the way.

I was on vacation. I had just loaded up my truck to do some fishing. I thought I’d grab a snack before I left and I turned on the t.v. and there was a crawler at the bottom that said the WTC had been hit by a plane. I switched to a news channel and then saw the second plane hit. I was glued to the news the next two days.
I felt sorrow for those that perished that day and anger against those that attacked us. Both are still with me. As Kevin Masters stated, they should play it every day so we don’t forget. We are at war.

My wife & I were living and working in Canton, OH at that time. My sister and her 1 year old were staying with us at that time. The company HQ was in Houston at that time in a tall building. They evacuated everyone from the building and sent them home.

I was at a combined training class and troubleshooting seminar in Houston, in a hotel conference room in Greenway Plaza. Everyone's pagers started going off right after a guy at the training class burst into the conference room returning from an unscheduled restroom break hollering "It's war! They're flying airplanes into buildings!" We saw the impact of the second plane on a TV the hotel personnel had set up in a common area adjacent to the conference rooms.

I was able to fly back that Fri, several hours later than my flight was initially scheduled. Intercontinental Bush was swarming with soldiers, Texas Highway Patrol, Border Patrol, all sorts of armed and ready eagle-eyed folks drawn from as many places as they could. My wife was also able to return that Friday, flying back from Indianapolis.

We learned United Airlines flight 93 had passed either very close to or over our house before crashing in Pennsylvania.

In 1970 I remember flying over the World Trade Center as it was being built, and the pilot pointing out that they would become the tallest buildings in the world.

I was working with the TV on in the background.

Katie Couric said there was smoke coming out of the World Trade Center. They went to the camera on top of Rockefeller Center, and pulled in a tight shot of the first tower. It was inconceivable to me that smoke of that magnitude could be coming out of the tower. It seemed there was a major malfunction in the fire suppression system. Couric then said that there were reports that a light plane had hit the tower.

The footage from Rockefeller Center showed the second plane hit the second tower. On a beautiful clear day, Katie Couric proceeded to say that the FAA computers must have gone down and was telling her staff to call the FAA and find out what was wrong with their computers that was allowing planes to fly into buildings. Needless to say, that clip never made it on the replays.

This was an obvious escalation from the Cole, Dar and Nairobi. The post cold-war pax was over.

I had told my wife I would take her out to dinner at Windows on the World one day. Perhaps the snack-bar at Walmart will suffice.
