Everyone took a chance with my Merkel 470 NE and no broken shoulders!
The ammo we used were those that Art and Art Sr helped me to reload a few months ago. Art Sr’s recipe worked very well I think. Pictured below I landed two about 2 1/2 inches apart.
Middle of the picture middle black dot. The two big holes just above the black dot left barrel at 11 o’clock right barrel at 2 o’clock!

I bought some shooting gloves on advice from several AH members and WOW did they make a difference when shooting the 470 NE. On one previous trip to the range when I first got the rifle the trigger guard got my second finger pretty bad when I was pulling the front trigger. So today I had some padding there and a much better grip. The results ......no blood wound!

What a fun time!

@CAustin the left/right regulation looks really good as far as height, they are dead-even.

Do you think your ammo is a touch slow, or fast to have that distance?

I think you’re 1gr or less +/-, or more or less crimp in the case, from getting that Merkel 470 into epic accuracy territory.

I’m very encouraged that they are printing side to side from one another, indicating awesome regulation at the factory. Velocity is a tiny touch. Away from magical convergence. (Or running parallel to infinity)

Could you share the recipe?

So many great sportsmen handload as if it's nothing ... And here l am still afraid to handload even a .375 HH Magnum :( . I wish l could learn someday.

Ain’t nothing, just spend a bit of time researching. 300gr and some IMR4350. H4895 and 250’s and you’ll be there.

Respect for what you’re doing is certainly needed, fear however is unnecessary.

I suggest buying and reading a good loading manual. Then if you can, watch somebody else do it.
Thanks ,Wyatt :) .
It's a real pain having to buy 300 grain cutting edge monolithic meplat brass Solids , Norma cases and Propellant and then having to pay some guy at my local shooting range to load them up for me
( To his credit , he does a good job though )

Will be happy to do so when I get back home to the loading room. Art SR did a lot of research to come up with a good load. By the way the rounds are not crimped yet. Had a custom die made by Lee.....now Art has to show me how to use it.
I was really pleased with the whole day as I got to test both of the rounds previously loaded.

That's it ? :D

An abundance of caution is not unwarranted. Some guys roll through their Dillon progressives. I still load 'em one at a time in my Rock Chucker, weighing every powder charge.

Buy 3 or 4 reloading manuals, and read the first half of each (the part before you get to the actual recipes) before you go to the reloading bench.

Reloading for Camp Perry or F-class is one thing. Reloading for hunting is quite another. Not saying you don't have to be careful for the latter (you certainly do), but the real precision shooters weigh and measure a lot more than is necessary for the kind of accuracy that is useful for most hunting.

Shooting a single, ragged hole with 5 hunting loads is a bonus. For precision/competition shooting, it's a requirement.

Thanks , Sarge !
I got a question. My dream Collector's gun is an 11.2 × 72 mm August Schuler Model 34 Rifle. Obscure caliber but l can make cartridge cases for it by using .404 Jeffery Brass and turning the belts off. Getting bullets for it is the problem though.
Today , another forum Member here told me that his friend ( a former professional Elephant culler ) used to make his own Monolithic solids by cutting Brass Bar Stock. So it got me thinking .
How hard is it to make solid bullets yourself from Brass Bar stock ? I would imagine there are some risks involved.
