.375 Cartridge holder/carrier/pouch - help

Well, I guess I am the cheap skate n this question. I always use a cartridge holder on the rifle stock usually a Uncle Mikes which holds 10 rounds but I place one full backup load in this holder. If it is on my DG pachyderm rifle I place one extra soft in the last loop at the butt and 4 solids in the loops towards the trigger. I also use a Uncle Mikes 10 round holder that slides on a belt along with my knife and leather man.
The same with the PG and cat setup except all softs on a separate belt.
 
How you carry extra ammo is always a personal preference, over the years I have use most of them. I've put shells in my pants pocket, shirt pockets, in shell holders worn on my belt or in my vest, in pouches on my LBE and on the stock of my rifle. The older I get the simpler I like things to be, these days I prefer to carry my ammo on the stock of my rifle, if I have my rifle I have ammo. However if you have a rifle with really nice wood don't cover it up with an ammo holder use one of the other methods.

Another vote for Murray. The style is your preference.

I have three of the C-1 shell holders. When I snap open it flips down and I can instantly grab a soft or solid without looking as I always keep five softs in the top section and four solids in bottom when I have both.
 
I haven't had occasion to use solids but I stagger my rounds--every other one about a half inch higher than the one next to it. Easy to grab without having to dig it out. When I use the high ones the others are separated and readily accessible. A trick I learned from 3 gun competition. Works with belt, buttstock or sidesaddle. On a buttstock or sidesaddle I insert rounds upside down and staggered. It's faster to pull down than lift up. If you want to use both softs and solids load with softs high and solids low or vice versa. With the different heights you can't get confused. Just remember up from down.
 
Like everyone else, go with the Murray. Or use the cheapskate method and borrow one.
 
I use several Galco products: “Stalker cartridge wallet” cartridge holders - one for my 308 and one for my 375 (these take 10 cartridges), as well as “double rifle six pack”, “field grade culling belt” and a couple of holsters and mag carriers for my 1911. I find their quality to be quite decent and styling quite nice.
 
However one wants to keep/store extra cartridges, don’t put loose cartridges in a pants (cargo) pocket along with a pocket knife. It took me awhile to figure it out, but when I knelt down many times while hunting elk, I guess the knife blade hilt top squeezed up against my .338WM cartridges and put uniform dents in the case shoulders. Bizarre, but didn’t affect the firing of the cartridges.
 
Whatever works. Leather does look good and is Traditional. Make your own save some dollars for more ammo,

I actually have. Canvas elastic belt slide pouch that’s I found in a clearance bin.
 
My PH used one of these from Els & Co.
As I recall some of the cartridges were higher than others so he could grab them more quickly.
It's a pricey item, but high quality and should last a very long time.
Not sure it's on my "NEED list", but certainly qualifies for the "would be really nice to have list".

Here's what I use depending on conditions, type of hunting, etc.
The elastic loop stock slip-over (Kolpin-type) is simple and works for most all situations. The tri-fold canvas "wallet" with velcro closure is most handy for carrying extra rounds in pocket or daypack. The Murray-type belt slide does not have velcro nor snap closure-- just a loose over-flap to hold carts in as each cartridge is not under any tension, sitting in each compartment-- works extremely well for fast, handy DG load purposes. The large cartridge belt works for carrying quite a few large/heavy cartridges and is easy to load from.

I prefer the straight forward slider type, ten rounds per slider. When hunting DG or in a DG area one for Solids and one for softs.

I can shift them out the way and then where I want them if action is imminent.

When hunting DG I also use a arm wrist band that holds 2 to 5 rounds depending on caliber on my left wrist this is the fastest way to top up or reload if needed.

I have never had to speed reload from the slider.

I use a sharpie and make symbols on the case head. My father taught me to do this to differentiate various buckshots growing up in the shell jacket. The markings on the shells would eventually wear off and this made things very easy to customize your loadings based on your surroundings and whether or not turkey season was in. A circle around the rim was O Buck, a plus sign was #4 Buck, a line was #1 Buck, a half line was magnum #1 Buck, a dot on the primer was OO Buck, OOO Buck was a fully blackened case head, and BB's was a B drawn across the primer.

I don't load solids yet but the plus sign and dot are very durable for indicating single shot loads that won't fit in my magazine rifle during load development.

When using a bolt gun, 3 + 1 or 4 + 1 in the rifle; How many extra rounds of ammo should a person carry on their person when hunting: DG? PG?

I'll be crafting another cartridge pouch much like the one I gave my PH in 2017. It held 14, I think, 30-06 rounds, 7 on top and 7 on the bottom. It was a tri-fold, with antler button and elastic loop to hold it shut. Used mainly when I carried my T/C Encore deer hunting.
