Concealed Carry

Thouse wood grips are really nice to by the way. Mine had a pachmyer on it. Still does. It's a -2 I over paid for it, just cause I really wanted it. I don't shoot it much cause it's old and I usually reach for the Ruger cause it's my work horse and i can get another easier and cheaper than the smith

I also have a rifle Chambered in 44Mag, my Ruger Auto Loader not a ton of Muzzle Velocity but at 50 Yds 1750fps should do the job on hogs and deer

Glock 43.
Would have got the Ruger LC9s, but already had a Glock 19 for the nightstand and thought it best to stay with same style for EDC.

CC gun; Sig 938 9mm. Bigger under jacket gun: S&W 5 inch 45acp with 8 rounder and a 10 rd extra mag or Kimber Aegis Elite Pro 45acp, same mags.

Ive resorted to carrying a little Ruger .380 LCP lately.. mostly out of comfort/convenience.. I can slip it into the front pocket of a pair of shorts or slacks and wear it anywhere without anyone noticing..

and its light enough that it doesnt pull down my pajama pants when I leave the house to go shop at Wal-Mart :ROFLMAO::D:p:ROFLMAO:

Way too much of that going on at Wal Mart already... Best excuse ever for carrying an LCP;)

I love the P938 that I have. That thing can hide in almost any clothing style

In warm weather I rock a Colt Detective Special w/hollow points plus a speed loader with snake shot. Not warm weather it's a Colt Commander in .45

So.... I currently have two handguns that I regularly carry.

First is my S&W 500 4" that I carry fishing, rafting, hiking, anywhere that activities may include brown bears or moose with attitude and I am not actually hunting them. Use a chest holster or a belt holster depending on the activity. I Love the hand cannon and it serves its purpose, but it's not so good for "concealed carry". Anybody that is looking can see it from 50 yards away no matter how it's carried and it weighs a ton.

Next is my Beretta 92fs 9mm. Also love this gun. 15rd mags and easy to operate. I carry it every day anywhere activities may include people with attitude, in my vehicle, in my day pack, travels with me, and occasionally on my belt if hiking. It pretty much goes anywhere that I don't want to carry the .500. The downside is that it's also kinda big for real "concealed carry". And I don't really carry it as much as I want for that reason.

So... I am thinking that it's time to buy something that is more concealed carry friendly. That I can carry on my belt or in a shoulder holster under an over shirt without much fanfare. I am thinking a about a Derringer snake slayer 45lc (the one with the trigger guard) or maybe a smaller model Beretta 9mm. A good 1911 might be ok too, but I am thinking something smaller, maybe a small .38 revolver??

So the question is... What are you guys carrying, and how are you carrying it??? Recommendations??

The US Secret Service just decided that the Glock 19 suffices, and conceals well. Although I am a long-time 1911 shooter, I found the G19 a much better balance of size, capacity, weight, a grip that fits my hand, and reliability. There are so many choices, and selection depends so much on your preferences.

Hi again Larry,

The 10mm makes more sense as a daily carry pistol here in The United State of Alaska than it does in many places of today's criminal friendly world.
Not only do we have our share of rather large boned and hard to put down criminals but, we also have the occasional grumpy bear, not to mention grumpy cow moose when they're tending a calf.
If that's not enough, we all quite often wear thick clothing most of the year, including the "zombies" (aka - violent drug saturated criminals).
The more cloth and insulation/stuffing, also bear hair/moose hair, muscle and bone that a projectile has to pass through before reaching the right spot, the better a 10 mm looks, up here on the wild frontier.

The Glock 10mm is a very good buy these days IMO, and even if it was to cost more than it does, I'd still rate it as an excellent self defense / carry pistol (and not bad for a hunting handgun either) for people like yourself who are willing to stay in practice and familiarity with it (should be standard behavior for all of us really, no matter what brand/model/caliber we choose to carry - IMO).
The 10mm that has gotten my attention (the new / all steel Sig P220 10mm Elite") costs almost twice what the Glock 10mm costs but, I am sure is no more adequate for the tasks mentioned above than the Glock is.
If I didn't already have more than one excellent carry pistol IE: a .357 Sig P226, a .40 Caliber Sig P226 and my old custom ("Street Fighter" as I like to call it) 1911, .45 ACP built on an early 1980's vintage Springfield Arms frame and slide, I would definitely consider the 10 mm cartridge now.
If the wild animals or zombies rush me now, I expect to survive it all with what I have but, that 10mm would be better if it was a grizzly or moose that tried to get me.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Frei Brothers vino, it's a personal favorite of ours, especially when enjoying any red meat/domestic or game either one.

Adios for now my friend,
Paul.

PS:
I am definitely with you on holsters that completely cover the trigger on handguns.

There are many service-size pistols I prefer to the G's, all of them metal. I had an odd think happen long ago: Immediately after my war year I was quite ramped up about "the pistol," whatever that was at the moment. Suddenly, though, pistols became for me just a boring but worthwhile tool. Long guns, especial good skeet/birding guns and rifles took over. Eventually I switched from 1911s to a G30 lower/G36 slide Frankengun for carry, often a G36 for pocket carry (still), and lately a G19 MOS for CC holstered. No longer interested in staying current on various trigger-feel-and-weight items...or multiple system function checks and repairs...I went further G, adding a 10MM with BBore field cartridges. My "nightstand" item (really kept elsewhere) is a G21 with light/laser. I think your son, at least, would understand. My favorite pistol to shoot, however, is still my old S&W Model 41, which is very simple in every regard. No more pistols. Have too much else to think about and do.

The first rule of a gun fight is have a gun, unless you are very disciplined you will start leaving the full size guns at home. A compact .45 is a great choice but if you don't have 10's of thousands of rounds under you belt with a .45 the recoil makes accuracy and second shots difficult. If you have stood ankle deep in .45 brass the Paracarry with the LDA trigger is the only choice. If you can't use a .45 a good choice for a general duty carry gun is the Ruger LC9s with a crimson trace laser. Adjust the laser to set just above the front site at 7 yards, in high pressure situations the laser is a great aid. High capacity handguns are fine for CQB so keep your 92 by the bedside to defend your home but carry a small, light 9mm, 380 or .38 special.

I've already outed myself as now prone to simple light reliable handguns, no longer feeling unsafe without a thumb safety. However, I still keep the G30/36 and especially the G21 for so-called nightstand use...because (am I alone on this?) I've had occasion over the decades to shoot both .45ACP and 9mm indoors in fairly small spaces, no ear pro, and I can say without hesitation that the .45ACP was much easier on the ears and eyes (muzzle blast and flash). I never found the recoil a problem in .45ACP because the "rate of recoil" is slower with the .45ACP cartridge, much higher for 9mm and 10mm. My subjective experience may differ from others'. Be interesting to know...

Just picked up a Sig “certified like new” P229 in .357 Sig for $489 from CDNN Sports. 125gr Speer Gold Dots is the CC ammo of choice. I’m currently shopping for a LH IWB holster.

I just picked up a FN40 Long slide. Outside of my carry piece this is the first Polymer/Metal Handgun I own. It felt a little nose heavy but loading 14ds in the Mag evened it out. Can't wait for some range time

Fight like you train

As a competitive USPSA shooter between practice and competitions I go through 50K to 60K rounds of .40 S&W each year. So, I decided to make sure my carry gun had the same manual of arms. Top one is my primary competition gun, and the bottom is my CCW. STI DVC Carry in 9mm.
