So, I Was In The Loading Room Today...

It will be a minor miracle (if there is such a thing) if neither of us sees the inside of a jail or hospital on this trip.

But we're going to have fun!

If John Sharp writes another book, you and Cody might get your own chapter.

With Tim and I, what could go wrong? I mean most of it has already happened! All I am missing as of right now is a Rhino charge and a gang rape by a troupe of love struck baboons to really round out my trip! Throw in a bit of civil unrest and we have a movie!

Civil war breaks out, Cody and I have to fight our way cross-country to Botswana while being chased by HIV-Positive Baboons and rabid African Spotted Dogs.

"Three Days to Botswana". Coming to a theatre near you!

If you are wearing your Wildebeest loin cloth all your dreams may come true. Really have fun and stay safe.

So, I was in the loading room the other day, weighing a bullet.

This bullet happened to have killed a Cape Buffalo...

59% weight retention. Went from 550gr to 327gr.:eek:

Waiting on some feedback from the manufacturer...but he seems to think the bonding failed, based on my report to him and these pics:

well at least he didn't say it was your fault or some other thing.
it is good to hear that response.
actually if that was the worst bullet you ever fired, life would not be too bad.
bruce.

@tarbe : Tim, I am going throw a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct and penalize you 15 yards for taunting. All of AH is waiting to hear about the mother of all hunts you and Cody @Bullthrower338 just got back from. Apparently, a tough cape buffalo was encountered.

And quite possibly the toughest Impala on the face of the earth also!

Well, I am just going to have to take that penalty and suck it up.

Got sick right after coming home...work is a mess....company coming in this weekend from out of town...I have nothing in me to start a trip report. I can post a pic and answer a question...creativity is not in me right now!

And yeah, Cody ran into the toughest Impala on earth for sure!!!!!

I agree completely Bruce.

The bull died quickly in this case. Just clearly not the performance the bullet was designed for.

Had the shot needed to penetrate more than the near shoulder to get to vitals, it would not have made it.

As is, it stopped in the lungs.

What was the muzzle velocity?

So, I was in the loading room today (and yesterday, and the day before that!)...yes, in the loading room, loading ammo...and not writing a hunt report!

I was loading 45-70 and 30-30 this week. When getting ready for last weekend's range trip, I noticed I was getting a little low on ammo and figured I best get busy.

Earlier this year I bought some 300gr Barnes TSX for the 45-70 and holy cow! I think I could use those suckers for shot glasses!

One of these babies at about 2,000 fps into the boiler room ought to up-end just about anything under 400 pounds. :)

So, I was in the loading room today (yes, the fourth day in a row).

I was finishing up a batch of 80 45-70s.

Decided to do some 300gr Hornady Hollow Point to go along with those shot-glasses I mentioned above.

I'm fishing around in the .458 bullet stash and pull out a box of Hornady and would you look at this lot number...

IMG_1004.jpg

Holy cow! Those of you who used Hornady back in the day will instantly recognize that this box of bullets was made in 1974...which just happened to be the year I started loading my own.

How's that for a little nostalgia on a Friday night?

I think I will leave a few bullets in this box, and let her repose upon my bench until it is time for all my crap to go wherever an old handloader's crap goes when they croak!
