How Many times to read an AH ad before you book?

All depends on how active the baits is when we hunt and what time your first animal got shot... Lot of things determan the choice we make. But yes we can do multiple species in one night if you are lucky.
 
I need the next two weeks to get stuff done for work, but not happening at this rate. Too busy over analyzing photos Dawie posting! Keep em’ coming. Just do me a favor and change some of the time stamps to 18:54 so I can convince myself it will happen early!!! LOL

Oh, I see how this is going to go. As I sit there at 3:30AM, Dawie drops the casual “ should have been here 2 weeks ago....”
 
I read earlier that your using 223, 243 Outfitter rifles. Those small animals don't look "shot" bad at all. What bullets are being used, Dennis recommended solids, is that what is being used? I plan on taking my 300 WSM, can't find real solids, but can load some 150 gr FMJ. Will they work?

Probably a better question for Dawie. I know when I have shot other small stuff, I have used a solid in my .375 and just center punched them behind the shoulder. With the light calibers that Dawie says we will be using, I assume we will use softs and again just put behind the shoulder. First time in Africa not to take my own guns, so I am trusting the PH here emphatically.

Thanks, my second gun will be my 375 and I do have solids for it. Seams awe full big to use on such small stuff, used some nosler partitions one time, man did stuff "explode", accubonds were far better but still required a needle and thread. My outfitter has camp guns, maybe that will be a better route for the small animal portion.

Dawie can you weigh in on bullets?

Hi guys I use good bullet that don't break up soft points, the. 243 don't do any damage to the critters.
Only animal I will shoot with shotgun or. 22 is the Gennit all the others are perfect.
My 2 cents on. 375 solids, works perfect but I think you are lot more accurate with a smaller caliber with no recoil and silencer.

You have one change and need to be able to take advantage of it.

Again you should just talk to what your Outfitter prever but my opinion is. 300 wsm is to fast and will blow a hole in the soft skin animals.

Good old leopard! When I was there, we had big leopard eating at one of the baits but I never saw him.
 
Nothing like the old spots to cough by the blind to make the ole pucker hole really tighten up.

Was sitting by the bush tv while my son was doing a night hunt in Limpopo last year. I clearly heard a leopard cough several times as he walked the perimeter road by camp. 30 minutes later, so I heard from my son, he hears the same leopard walk behind their elevated blind. 10’ up in the air and he moves the chair in front of the door and rest all 6’4” of himself braced against it. Quite the mental picture. What Africa will do to you is a hoot!
 
Same happened to me in Zim in a Beithbridge area camp, up early on the camp grass having a coffee, walking around when some coughing, barking, growling noise's in the river grass erupts and real close. Pucker factor and WTH moment. I ask Wayne WTH is that and ever so casually he says leopard letting us know he is there. Wow Just another small thing that makes Safari so awesome.

Amazing pics, genet and leopard same bait same night and about 1.5 hrs apart and early. Place I would love to sit, hope this continues for you Mort, your going to have fun.

With my hunt with Dawie for these night critters less than two weeks off, I have been working on trimming my sleep down to about 5 hours a night. Unfortunately, the folks at the office have noticed. We now keep 2 pots of coffee brewing and they are asking me to just go ahead and stay a month. Only good thing I guess is it means 19 hours awake which is more time to smoke cigars!
 
Hopefully those pic luck stays, you will be done early nightly with all skins in the salt, then what will you be looking for? That leopard may still be around, permit??

Did Jimmy Derringer pass? I wasn’t aware. Many years ago when I was hunting exotics or as I call it my “ training years” Jimmy did several mounts for me. Gezzz it had to be fairly young. Does anyone know how he passed?
