I don’t see CROSSBOW listed?

Huh...... I can honestly say nothing in that explanation improves my assessment of the PH’s management of that follow-up.

It always amuses me that someone who has looked at cattle and never even seen a buffalo in the wild figures out what is adequate to hunt them. I have been around both, and trust me, they are wired somewhat differently than an angus, red or black.

Well l'm glad your amused!! Lol.

Yeah, conspicuously absent.
@IvW , does this regulation apply to all lands and Provinces in S.A., meaning is this fully applicable to privately owned land? And might it be possible to submit a letter of motivation like one would do for a handgun and receive permission to use a crossbow? With all the other brainless activity that took place here, a less than legal hunt is a pretty short leap.

No, I think this situation is similar when I used to hunt in Kansas for pheasants and deer. There are regulations, but with a “wink”, the locals/clients can hunt “differently”? It’s all good! I’m not complaining, I just wouldn’t hunt DG with a crossbow. And sure as H***, IF I or someone else wounded a DG animal, I would EXPECT all LARGE BORE (not a .30-06) rifles in the hunt for the wounded animal and NOT somebody trailing behind with a camera! Just MY thoughts and MY expectations.

Yes unless the owner of the land is the hunter then there are some differences.

Yes you could apply for a permit to hunt with a crossbow but my experience tells me you will not be issued with one, unless somebody knows somebody and some palms are crossed with silver....

Same goes for hunting from a vehicle or using artificial light in the Eastern Cape for example, both are illegal unless you are in possession of a permit to do so....

Got it, thank you.

...and the client is already planning his next trip back.
Getting ready for a second helping of STOOOPID.

I hope the client/outfitter don't get anyone hurt or killed.

This is the strangest sensation... I want to say something so badly and I just don't know what to say:E Sad:
The only one that didn't completely screw the pooch, IS The Pooch!
If I was the dog, after this ridiculousness, I’d give my owner the double eagle, pee on his leg and get the hell outta there...

I am sure, this is done succesfuly on occasion - hunting buffalo with crossbow (as in this case), with bow, or 10mm pistol.
But, it is not my cup if tea.
If audio transcript is correct, it all went south, when wounding the buff with crossbow the day before. Lets hope nobody was killed, and they have learnt the lesson for next time.

Lots of keen observations. My favorite is the farm manager wearing "blue jeans" camouflage, popular hunting attire in let's say Pennsylvania, which adds tremendously to the lure of hunting Africa. Ranks up there with your trackers checking their phones and texting during the hunt.

Don't see any problem here. You went out looking for trouble and under gunned. You found trouble and were under gunned. You get what you pay for.

The only issue I have is that my beloved 30.06 is being dragged through the mud and now people think it is not good enough to hunt a buff..... :A Stirring:

What amazes me really is that this takes place a day later and the biggest rifle they decided to go with was a .375... with a scope. I'm sure in the intervening 12-15 hours from crossbow to follow up they could have borrowed a real stopper that started with at least .458 and up...

30.06 and .375... very professional!

I can honestly say I've been reading through this thread with a smurk on my face so I guess I thoroughly enjoyed it lol
Thank you for sharing!!!
