Buffalo Cull

It’s ok to pay people to shoot them but not ok for people to do it for free. Bloody hell!

Its amazing the human race is not extinct.

It breaks my heart and messes with my mind to know that a good portion of this cull will take place in the area where I used to conduct my buffalo safaris.

Let me be clear that the true Traditional Owners are against this action and were quite happy and satisfied with revenue and relationships generated by a number of safari operators within the region.

This is a directory by external sources with a subversive agenda.

I am sickened, disgusted an appalled that our Government can put their invasive species agenda above the rights of autonomy for true Traditional Owners and ignore their directive.

I am far too emotional on this topic to comment any further at this time, enough said I will remind hunters that "if it pays, it stays". So if you don't want to support it by contributing financially then this will be the result. The Government will take care of the situation for you !!!
Keep your money in your pocket and bitch and moan about the lack of hunting opportunities and the Government will put the choppers in the air and hoover it all flat.

Total waste, no-one makes anything out of it, the animals pay and suffer and a once magnificent hunting resource and experience will never return.

I will take to my grave memories of flood=plains covered with Buffalo and hogs.

Damn.

Speechless.....

Incredible. Very sad

Can't "the powers to be" be persuaded to let paying hunters to come in and harvest the excess animals if indeed they are excess? Seems to me I read on an earlier AH post about guys looking for an inexpensive Buffalo hunt . This could be it if the Authorities would open their eyes.

What a mess. Seems so stupid to to cull when there are hunters that would love to come over for a cull hunt.......

Foolishness

Surely Paul if this is true I cannot see how the Aboriginal land owners with their clout and pull simply cant say fuck off to the Government if they dont want it to happen.
After all they have the major tourist attraction Uluru closed to climbing now (soon)

There must be a way for them to decide who can take the buffalo..i`m sure there would be blokes on this forum that would stump up 10 G`s to shoot 20 buffalo for the week!

John, you are seriously underestimating the Federal Government's commitment to feral animal control at present.
Currently, and to the best of my knowledge, there are areal culls active in Vic, S.A, A.C.T, Q.L.D and N.T. They are culling Sambar, Fallow, pigs, horses, donkeys and buffalo. That's only the extent of my knowledge, I would be surprised if it is not a LOT more extensive than what I am aware of.

In the specific case of Eastern Arnhemland think of what an isolated community who's modest income from royalties generated by safari hunting will do when the buffalo are wiped out to the point where the operating of safari hunts is no longer viable due to the lack of animal numbers AND that specific region is imbedded with TRILLIONS of dollars of under-ground MINERALS AND METALS ?

I'll let you all put two and two together.

With regards to cull hunts, I personally marketed cull/management hunts for a number of years.
The only way I was able to book a meagre number of hunts each year was to market them overseas as the local hunting population was not interested.
A good friend of mine is currently selling cull hunts for a number of non-trophy animals for less than $8k per hunter and struggles to book more than one or two of those hunts per year.

Unfortunately what hunters want and what they are prepared to pay for are a mile apart. Lots of smoke but very little flame.

I guess I'm not following...someone just posted about the government culling camel's by the 1000s in AUSTRALIA.

Is because they are buff that it hits home more? If they are feral animals then they never should have been there to begin with. Furthermore does it matter how they are killed? Weather by the hands of hunters or government? They will still die for no reason other than they were there.

I hate to see anything killed and wasted, if native species are suffering then what is the right answer?

I drive a long was to work every day, one 200 yard stretch of road I have seen the bodies of over 30 hogs in the last 3 weeks. Pigs are a very big problem in Texas. Farmers here are the same way. They don't want to let you hunt their property but the pigs are destroying their fields.

I don't know the right answer. I just think feelings get in the way of the correct answer.

There are a lot of Greens in the Govermnment departments that like to have their say.

If the Gov was fair dinkum about invasive species, they would get into Cane Toads and Euro Wasps

What I pointed out was Aboriginals OWN that land, thus it is theirs to do with how they see fit.
In the article it was claimed that they want it as the words below were published yet Paul you were saying basically that they were being run over by the Gov.

How do we know wtf is the truth?

Traditional owners are ramping up efforts to control thousands of feral animals in southern Arnhem Land,

Let me be clear that the true Traditional Owners are against this action and were quite happy and satisfied with revenue and relationships generated by a number of safari operators within the region.PaulT

This is another perfect example of govt stupidity in full bloom. In Australia you have camels, buf, horses, etc and in Africa it's elephant. If any of them had even a microscopic amount of cranial acuity, they would put a reasonable price on the game they want reduced and let hunters do the work. That would augment the economy, save the taxpayers much wasted money and give hunters a good hunt. Alas, that is too practical and shows too much sense of any kind for two bit politicos to comprehend.

Reasonable price being key here. I’ve always thought the prices outfitters charge for buffalo here is insanely high.
