Cheetah Hunting in Namibia

I'm not sure what it is you want me to tone down.

And actually you have said you wanted to manage the same way, by suggesting that hunting be stopped in areas where it WORKS because there are areas that it isn't used where populations are declining.

Hunting is nothing but a part of the solution. A part that has been proven to work over and over again. So yes, I'm hell bent on doing something that has been proven to work worldwide, and not to remove it from the equation when it's not necessary to do so, especially when there are no better solutions.

You'll either listen and learn here, or you won't. The choice is yours. If I offended you somehow I apologize and assure you it wasn't my intent. Enjoy your hunt in Africa and remember there is only one first safari! :)

I get that you have never been to Africa and that you are learning about new places, so I am trying to help you out.

Sites? Anything with some science attached to it?

Please note the
International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) screen shots actually quote SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL ARTICLES. Those shots do not include the entire bibliography. Look them up.

eg. See any Wolves in Texas lately? (besides a Zoo)
Start a campaign to save the Northern Timber Wolf through a reintroduction program in Texas.
I am sure it will take about three seconds before you feel the love from the local ranchers who's cattle and sheep you would like to use to save the Wolf.
If you are willing to pay them market price (guaranteed) for every last animal that is lost to the wolves you might get them to go along with it. Otherwise, .....

They banned Lion hunting in Botswana in the farm country and (if you watched the Youtube video from the tree hugger I provided) there are now ZERO LIONS. EXTIRPATED!
While they were being hunted in the area there were Lions!

DCA (Damage Causing Animal), PAC Problem Animal Control animals = DEAD!
It is Africa, "It pays, it stays!"

Most of the Cheetah population in Namibia is located on commercial land! That means farms.

The Namibian government has no money to compensate farmers for lost stock, at least not with any amount of money that even approximates the market value. So, how do you think they view DCA?

Want to give the Lion experiment from Botswana a try for Cheetah in Namibia!?

I don't.

Okay, since you asked, here are the things I was reading over dinner....

The last two are both interesting reads...the first two just stat stuff. The last one would suggest that managed hunting may be appropriate at some point should the comments in the article prove to be true....

General info sites, last couple are interesting...

Appreciate the info you posted...I'll read over as much as I can at breakfast...I read a lot, wife say too much...

Get where you all are coming from, truly do, and us hunters are given a lot of flack often that isn't deserved. Been called Bambi killer more than once. Our fees do go to a lot of conservation work. The big cats though are going to be a challenge the more and more I read from all sides....I'm becoming more and more convinced that they simply are not going to be compatible with human encroachment as they need too much space to live and we don't appear willing to give that to them....they are eventually going to be in park and reserves only, and their numbers are going to go down or stabilize are pretty much current levels, if they are lucky....and if hunting reserves are part of that for management purposes that's probably how it's going to be, and like you said maybe that is a necessity. Not ideal, but is what it is...thanks again.

Guys, Guys, Guys, quit arguing there are plenty to go around!

The tone down was that you seemed to think I can't read a map and comprehend the vastness of Africa....if I took that wrong, my sincere apologies to you sir.

Instead or retyping, I'll post to you what I just posted to Brickburn:

I appreciate your passion Royal, truly do. I think we all pretty much want the same thing, we just have slightly different views on how to do it. I'm so excited about our trip to Africa, I can't think of much else. Walking the bush is going to be fulfilling a lifetime's dream. Hope I get that big Kudu. And, Yes, I did check and they aren't vulnerable or stressed just now ;) Thank you for your comments and input, they did give me some perspective and it is appreciated.

Fastrig I didn’t realize you hadn’t been to Africa yet, enjoy your hunt. A little advise go with a open mind and take what Africa gives. You will see a totally different culture then you are used to, the people in the rural areas are very nice. Listen to what your PH says. My first trip 8 years ago was a real eye opener even though I had traveled to other parts of the world. Enjoy yourself

Thanks so much. I’m actually doing a short hunt on this trip, four days, to prep for a full hunt with some friends in 2021. I’m going to learn more than anything else, though do want that kudu, and will definitely be listening, absorbing, and asking the PH a lot of questions. I’ve traveled quite a bit as well but understand Africa is a place you kind of have to experience to get the sense of it.
