New Member from Texas

Welcome to AH!

Welcome. “Friendship” - Texas state motto!

Welcome, I am not too far from you. In San Antonio, the DSC South Texas Chapter is very strong and its events well attended. The Alamo SCI not so much. But if want to talk Africa Hunting in person those would be two places to start.

Thanks. Have been looking for a charitable organization to get involved in. If you are active in the DSC chapter and could shoot me some info on it, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Welcome aboard Fastrig. A February hunt in Africa would hardly be anyone's first choice, but if that is your only option, go for it. June is a much better time of year for nimrods. You will get lots of encouragement from AH members to seek out a 404 Jeffery to add to your rifle battery. The good thing is that they are now offered as a standard item by The Montana Rifle Company.

Thanks. The PH I'm going out with was very honest and told me February wasn't the best time of the year but said we'd make a go of it. If we get a nice Kudu bull that'll be great, but if one doesn't present itself then the this first trip will at least give me a little education and experience for the next hunt. I'm not a 'tag filler' type hunter and would rather go home empty handed than take just any animal. Hopeful for a shot at a quality trophy and sure my PH will do all he can to find one. Will plan on June or July for the full hunt in 2021, understand the weather is nicer.

Welcome to a fellow Texan ! As stated Feb is going to be tough and as such keep your options open for whatever Africa might have to offer at the time. Don't get hung up on one animal with such a short hunt and knowing you'll be back.

Thanks. Will keep the options open, but hoping for that big Kudu :)

A good starter package IMO, would be warthog and impala (inexpensive), kudu and gemsbok (great wall mounts), and zebra and blue wildebeest (iconic).

I believe the next DSC South Texas function is the Dove Hunt for opening weekend. It's usually an afternoon hunt, dinner and sundowners. Last year it was in Pearsell and the two prior year by Hondo.

Also opening weekend will be Alamo SCI dove hunt. That will be at the Shirley Ranch in Johnson City.

Welcome @Fastrig, I’m down the road in San Antonio. Do you by chance know Palmer at Bulverde Taxidermy? He’s done work for me over the years.

We moved here about eight months ago to open our new San Antonio office so haven’t had a chance yet to meet many of the local hunting shop vendors. Have been dealing with Matt, Barry and the guys at Armed in America in Bulverde and they couldn’t be any more helpful if they tried, great guys. Going to do some white tail and then elk hunting this fall, I’ll look Palmer up if either of those produces a trophy, hoping they will ;)

Howdy from NTX!

Welcome from the beautiful city of Houston! Yes sarcasm there! Lots of great folks on here, enjoy!

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
