CZ Craig Boddington Signature Rifle

I was curious about this thread and checked out this CB CZ online thinking that this rifle maybe had special qualities built in. Maybe something like special selected superdense and straight Ruglans Regia walnut because that is exactly what you want in a heavy recoiling rifle made for hard African hunting. And then the price tag easily could be defended.
Needless to say, but my jaw fell down to my third button when I saw the word ; Claro.. Really..!!

I admittedly totally ignorant as to walnut grade and selection. Could you point in the direction of a quality resource on those options?

just get a montana or Winchester and use it how it is.
everyone is blaming boddington here, but surely the issue is that cz give him the royalty.
only an idiot would refuse such an offer.
if ford offered to put your name on a car and paid you for every one sold, would you refuse?
cz gives Boddington money, then adds that onto the price and the customer pays.
boddington wins, the customer loses, and cz laughs all the way to the bank.
that and their apparent lack of a quality assurance programme make you think.
bruce.

Thanks, Bruce. I’ve been eyeing up that Winchester. I have developed no opionion on the Boddington issue- I’m just interested in that rifle but not paying attention to the man at all.

If you're after a large bore I'm not sure the boddington version offers one anyway?

+1 though on not wanting someone else's name on my bang stick, wouldn't accept another man's name on my wife either!

I’m really only after a .375 H&H. Sometimes the internal maniacal co-pilot starts to veer into 505 Gibbs territory... But mostly I’m trying to be realistic.

Not a CZ fan myself, but if I was going to spend what you are looking at doing, then the AHR would be the way to go. Personally, I would not own anything with the Boddington name on it. Nor will I hunt at any place that has the Boddington approved seal. But that’s just me.

I am a SAKO fan myself, and every once in a while think about buying a Blaser, but so far no purchase for me.

If you take a peek at the stock on the CB rifle- those lines appeal to me. Not sure how to describe it- but that’s been a long standing pursuit.

Oh shit, I better sell my No 1 Boddington Kudu. Someone might think I am a loser for owning it.

Egads, I have a No 1 Boddington Buffalo, as well.

What the hell was I thinking?

I paid at least an extra $100 for the rifles and all I got was a matte finish, nicer sights, cool chamberings and circassian walnut.

I better change my avatar, too. Don't want to be accused of being an advertisement for CB.

:E Laugh:
I got the privilege of owning this Kudu for a while until @tarbe finally realized that he had sold a rifle that he never should have sold. I also hunted it in the Limpopo and had great success with it. Never once thought I was pimping anyone’s name but I was proud of the rifle and where it came from. I have been accused of being a billboard for McCallen a time or two, we all have our price! Lol

What's three on the tree?......but Ford Bulletthrower338 .....does have a certain ring to it...:D:D Beers:

3 on the tree is slang for a steering column shifter. Harks back to the 1950s.

LOL right!!!! The Ol’ Hempy ‘76 CJ-5, w/ 304 V8, 4 Barrel, 3Speed, 34” Mickey T’s, chrome Duals racked by the glass packs. With the inside smelling like stale beer, a pile of panties & freedom!

Sorry to digress....

Amen, Brother. Nothing has or ever will beat the sound of 26 inch glass packs behind a blown Hemi.

Damn, you described my 79 CJ-5 to the bones. Except you left out the 8 track player screaming the Doobie Brothers or Waylon Jennings as an empty quart bottle of beer was winged out the side and smashed the deer crossing sign. Ahhhh, them were the days.

Yeah man..... she was a beast. I didn’t have an 8 track.... I was cassette, blaring Eagles. But slinging quarts of Miller was definitely common practice. Good times, different times.... for better or worse.

Yeesh! You guys make me feel ancient. All we had was AM radio when we could find a spot where it worked. I learned in a worn out 1933 Chevy with 3 on the floor. No synchro. We had to double clutch. FM and 8 tracks came---later. Narragansett beer bottles out the window and over the roof, Oh, yeah.

Bit harsh I'd say. As pointed out, he's hardly unique in trying to make a living off his name. Jim Shockey, Ivan Carter, Johann Calitz, etc., all do the same. It's called a personal reputation . . .

Regardless of what you think of CB personally (we really don't need to rehash that again - if you'd like, just put in a link to the thread!), he has tons of experience and has been places most of us would love to go. He also hunts with some of the best PHs and in some of the best areas as well. In fact, I've hunted a couple areas where he's hunted, and as I later found out, with the same PH a couple of times. I'd recommend both the areas and the PHs to anyone looking for a great hunt . . . the fact that that a PH has hunted with CB is no reason to avoid the the individuals, or the areas.

Well said Hank. The Boddington bashing gets a little old in my view. Some seem to have real issues with him, real or imagined. I know about the financial issues, but doubt many if any here had a personal connection to it. As to NOT hunting someplace he recommended etc,, that's just dumb. As I said elsewhere, like him or not, he has more worldwide hunting experience than probably anyone here. I have met the guy twice at the SHOT show, and he was very friendly and I have also emailed back and forth with him several times and he has always been helpful to me.

Is he perfect? No. Is anyone here perfect and never made mistakes or misjudgments in their life?

Some seem very judgmental. We should all look in the mirror and see if the guy looking back is perfect.

If you like it and it is what you are looking for get it regardless of it having a name on it.....even if it does can't imagine it being big .....trigger and action can be sorted if they not to your liking. ....but unlike what everyone assumes not every cz has these issues........also after the 375 the 505 is a very logical choice to pair it with.....so better start looking for one asap. ...:D

Ok cant understand this foreign language :E Head Scratch:.....what's this glass pack thing?.........

A Glass Pack is a type of muffler that offered less back pressure and more rumble than a standard muffler.

And sounds particularly awesome with Steppenwolf Born to Be Wild, blasting in the background.
