Wanted to buy Baikal double barreled side by side chambered in 45-70 Government.

New or used in good condition.

My Arizona FFL's are required to receive from another FFL only so if you have issue with this please disregard this query.

Post here or PM

Thanks

My old man had one for a while but could never get good groups and sold it. I always loved it though!

I should have it in my hands in a week or two.

The rabbits in my vegetable garden better make themselves scarce.

I'll try to get a couple pics up after it arrives.

Why not one in .400 or .465 h & h?

Well the end game is a 470NE, but in the interim, something a bit more widely available in reasonably priced guns seems an excellent compromise. Plus, rimless cases in a double? Perish the thought.

Yes I know, but I was just “expanding” his horizons. But, aren’t there doubles with rimless cases? I’ve only seen videos of doubles in action in Africa, and they look very fast and accurate. I would love to own one, but compared to a good bolt action, they aren’t reasonably priced. How come Ruger, Remington, Winchester, etc., don’t, won’t, can’t make double rifles for North American hunting or other Continents hunting? They make over/under and side by side shotguns? Double .30-06, .303 or .300 WM or H& H anyone? Why is African hunting different for “doubles” vs. anywhere else? Just a thought and question for someone who hasn’t hunted in Africa YET and is stuck here hunting in Colorado with my poor Browning bolt action. The shame of it!

I had one for a while, shot the snot out of it. Never gave me any issues and it did shoot well enough and was fun. But the goofy barrel "regulation" wheel takes a bit of finagling to get right. The barrels are thin and the wheel jacks one barrel around to sort of match the POI of the other, in theory. It actually works OK but it takes some doing.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!! Are you talking about! Barrel regulation “wheels” (?) and “wheel jacks barrels around”? No, not your Lamborghini, just a double rifle! Ha! Ha! No wonder I’ve never seen one at ANY shop or gun show in Colorado? I would love to shoot one though, maybe in a rimless caliber for Alistair’s sake.

My thoughts precisely.

These rifles were also chambered in the venerable .30-06 Springfield, a rimless cartridge.

Widely available in the US is another story all together though, because as I understand it, there was a moratorium imposed on the importation of Russian firearms put in place here in 2009.

Do you folks in the UK or Australia have this hurdle to cross?

Too bad, cause the Russians have built fine rifles in the past. I have two 91/30s and m44 carbine? Well built and accurate. Weld two 91 barrels together and you have a double? Ha!Ha!

I aint kidding, that's how they "regulate".

As I understand it, the left barrel is "fixed" and a jack screw regulates the right barrel.
This, as opposed to a fine gunsmith soldering barrels together, firing, unsoldering, adjusting, resoldering, firing, unsoldering, adjusting, resoldering...

Any one thing in particular that you didn't like about the rifle you had?

On another note completely,
I'm fascinated that you have hunted in Tunisia.
What did you hunt there?

Was hopeless to get to shoot at the same place two days in a row.
Could of cause be my rifle that was no good.
And it was only proofed to shoot the trapdoor etc loads that isn't allowed to hunt
big game with here.
In Tunisia I have hunted wild boars. Very nice driven hunt. Like shooting
100 kg clay pigeons! Only shotguns with slugs allowed.

I wouldn't have been happy with the lack of accuracy either, understandable.

As I understand it, most all commercially loaded ammo here in the US is loaded to trap door pressures because of liability issues should they be used in some of the older rifles still floating around.
Unlike many locales in Europe and Africa, most hunting regulations in the US pertain to type of cartridge (centerfire, rimfire, straight wall for example) and caliber as opposed to energy.
I couldn't even hazard a guess at how much game is taken here annually with factory loaded offerings, but it is substantial.
Luckily the largest game I would be killing with this rifle will be feral boar or black bear, and limited to shots inside 75 yards. I have absolutely no question it is capable, accuracy issues withstanding.

The driven hunt in Tunisia sounds like a great deal of fun! :W Shotgun Pump:
Thanks for sharing.
