Hello,

Looking into the possibility for taking the family (wife, 2 kids) along on a hunting trip, and I believe Namibia is where we want to go. Looking for a relatively basic setup with plainsgame on the menu, for an introduction to hunting the African continent. Oryx, kudu, warthog and hartebeest are high on the wish-list, but I'm really after the total experience, rather than inches on the wall. Free-range is a big plus. A mixture of trophy/own-use animals could also work.

Preferred dates: either around Easter (ideal slot between be 4th to 12th, or 10th to 18th of April), or mid-June (11th-21st) Unfortunately, school holidays play a role here. I would guess a 5-7 day stay is what we had in mind.

I am the only hunter in the family, but my son (aged 16) has started showing a little interest. He might want to get an introduction to hunting. Anyway, there needs to be something to do for the rest of the family, if not tagging along for the day, which might happen, but not the majority of the time. So a pool is probably a must. Possibility of other activities could be interesting.

Separate accommodation for the kids, i.e. they can share a room, just not with their parents. Unfortunately, I'm not made out of gold, so price will have to be a factor as well. 5-star luxury lodging is probably out of the question.

Any good offers out there?

I'd highly recommend talking to Kowas Safaris. I took my non-hunting wife there in 2016 and we both loved it and were looked after extremely well.
I successfully hunted great old trophies of the 4 species you mentioned in their free range areas. Along with others.
They have very nice lodgings with a pool, and are only just over an hour from Windhoek so the option is there for family outings which they'll happily accommodate.

I recommend Ritter Safaris. Rolf and Marion and family. Two trips, wonderful hosts. Truly a family business. Very reasonable rates. I have taken kudu, oryx(2), warthog(2), steenbok, impala, Hartmann's zebra. Northcentral Namibia. Three hours from Windhoek.

Marius at KMG. Realize that summer in the northern hemisphere is winter south of the equator. Being from Sweden you may swim in cold weather, but this southern USA boy doesn't!

I had a fantastic hunt with Philip at Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris last year. An enormous hunting area, that is all free range, and more game that you can imagine.

try Aru game lodges very family orientated have hunted with them 10 times amazing

I can recommend Philip@Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris my two children have had great times there and the hunting is great.

Hi,

It is great to hear that you are planning your first safari to Namibia.
Our company, Jamy Traut Hunting Safaris, take pride in hosting families with children in our camps.
We have two hunting areas where we mostly do our plains game hunting.
The one area, Panorama, is about 200,000 acres.
The second area, in Kaokoland, is over 1.5 million acres of unfenced land.

Panorama is the hunting area best suited for first time family safaris.
Here you will find luxury accommodation with a swimming pool. Your family will also be able to do game drives to see a lot of plains game species, as well as rhinos and giraffes.
We can also do side trips with your wife and kids if they are interested.

Please feel free to contact me at info@jamyhunt.com for more information.

Kind Regards,
Kirsten

Thanks for the suggestions and offers. I have reached out, and awaiting a few replies to come back.
