I had my T/C Encore rifle at the range this week and it got me thinking: This with a couple of barrels might be a good option for PG. Say a .280 and 9.3x74R? Couple that with a Ruger #1 in .458 Lott for DG... a single shot safari.
Have any of you taken an Encore to Africa? If so, what caliber(s)? Did you take multiple barrels?

I took an Encore with a Bergera 300 WM barrel to the northern cape on 2010. I chose the encore because it fit nicely into my bow case. I ended up shooting everything with the encore because none of my target animals came by my bow blind. I don’t feel at all undergunned with either an encore or a #1. I took all my animals in Limpopo with a #1 in ‘17 while I was hunting with @Wild Wildebeest Safaris. They make a wonderful stalking rifle.

I’m a lover of #1’s. Currently only have a #3 in .45/70 and the #1 in .458 Lott. Previously had a .25/06 and a .340 Wby (rebarreled from a 7mm mag).

Yes Sir, there is something about a #1 that just feels right. I don’t figure I will ever be without a few of them in my safe.

As a left-hander I love the Encore, which was my first hunting rifle. I took my it to Namibia twice with a 30-06 barrel to take the majority of my animals there, eight out of ten. Can you get a 9.3x74R barrel for it? I just took a look at Bullberry's custom page and even they don't list it.

The only problem that I can see might be importing different caliber of ammo even if you do have a barrel for it and trying to explain it to the SAP's officers.

Remember this is SA where they treat a 4457 as a form that expires and you need a new one each year or on a form that hasn't expired yet.

Other than that hunting with a single shot is fun to do. All 8 of my plains game fell to one shot except for one and I would of had no problems using a single shot such as a TC Encore or a Ruger #1

Match Grade Machine makes them and I’m sure SSK will make one, but it would be a little pricey.

You’re right about those darn SAP officers. Now that you mention it, I can see it being a PITA!
I have a lot of experience hunting with single shot rifles and handguns in the USA, but not Africa. If I get back there it would be for another buffalo, bush pig, nyala and possibly another eland and kudu.
I know I want to use my #1 in .458 Lott on the buffalo. A 9.3x74R should be a kick ass round for rest of the list.

After hearing all the problems with bolt actions not feeding and doubles with poor regulation the single shot don't look to bad. The Ruger No.1 ultimate control round feed. You can actually get the second shot of pretty fast. Some people can do it faster than a bolt.

Taken many animals with my #1 in 300WinMag and #1 in 375 H&H.
Your 458 Lott will certainly get the job done on DG!

Do what makes you happy! If you wanna do a single shot safari, cool! Hunting and shooting is all about what trips your trigger. Some guys like tall blondes, I like short stacked brunettes. Plenty of room for everyone.

Just an FYI, I used my .270 on my plains game hunt and it was more than up to the task. I think the .280 would be a super option.

I took a No. 1 AB in 45-70 (the brunette) and 1B in 264 Mag (the tall blonde). Kind of an African 3 way. But the Encore would make for a short gun case, and some easy transport............FWB

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
