Hello you all Africa-professionals!
I am planning a trip with focus on Cape buffalo in September. I have been hunting buffalos in Selous TZ before and was very pleased with the amount of buffs. Now I am thinking about Niassa in Mozambique or Luangwa in Zambia. Could somebody tell me how the density of buffalos there are in those places?
Thank you very much for your help.

Nothing compared to what you had there I am afraid to say.

Have you considered the Caprivi in Namibia?

Good day sir,

Welcome to the site and we will be able to offer you in Zimbabwe.

Please pm me your email address and I can forward you all the details

Yes but the price are to high for what I get in my opinion. I have heard Caprivi it’s fantastic area but pricy. You could get 2 buffalos in TZ for the same as one in Caprivi. Or a buff and a hippo in Zambia or a buff and a sable in Moz. It’s just what I found about Caprivi that one buffalo starts at 20 000 USD. Another thing is that my hunting buddy was there last year and did not have a good experience. But as always it depends on were you go in the area.

Kris, the Luangwa can be great or it can be terrible. You have to go to the right concession, Chifunda is one that is great.
Good luck

My favorite spots to date are Botswana, the Luangwa, and the Save. We will be hunting Dande North with Carlton McCallum this year. We are very impressed with what we have seen of the area and the outfit in our research.

Chifunda, Nyaminga and Chanjuzi are all very very good Buffalo GMA's and they are all together in a row.
email me on info@spearsafaris if you want me to put you in contact with the owner there?

Hi Ernest,
Not necessary, I've done my time in those GMA's. I hunted in one of the three for 6 year straight. The duPlooy's had Nyaminga & Chanjuzi and PJ Fouche' was the PH running Chifunda.

Good times.

I must ask.... how was the Selous??? My bucket... has places like Selous,Caprivi, Moz, Etc.... just curious. Thx!

Thank you very much!
my vote...try the Rungwa area of Tanzania.
there are still many buffalo and they are bigger in body and horn than the Selous Buffalo on average. you also get to see a totally different ecosystem. you can still take 2x buffalo on the same safari.

I was there in Sept last year. Saw some huge bulls - and herds of about 700+ - plus nice elephant, lots of leopard and a heck of a lot of hippo! Game is so plentiful in this prime that a seven day hunt is the norm. PM me for a contact.

looking to possibly go to nyaminga in august for buff and leopard. cannot find much info on it. read where the gma is 200 square kms. that is only about 50,000 acres. do you know how large the gma is? On map I see that Chanjuzi is quite large but nyaminga not shown.

Not sure how big it is? I can honestly say the size isn't an issue, due to the game density. The Leopard hunting is as good as anywhere in Africa. I've killed two Leopards and one Lion in Nyaminga. All three cats were a total of 7 sittings. Buffalo was typically what you'd expect. Drive the river road in the morning, find fresh tracks...blah, blah, blah. Several times we saw dust hanging in the air and followed tracks from there. Be sure to shoot a Puku and a Cookson Wildebeest.

When I hunted it, the duPlooy's were the operators. Not sure now.

right duplooys had chanjuzi and nyaminga I think. There may be two of us hunting cats so it is always nice to be able to cover some country and spread out. thanks for the info.

If you're sharing any GMA on a cat hunt, I would recommend trying to one of you hunt Nyaminga, the other hunt Chanjuzi. You could still stay in one camp as they are close to one another. I would NEVER share a GMA on a cat hunt.

I had Federico Gellini screw me on a 21 day license in Tanzania once. I had a contract for exclusive use. I go there and there was an entire camp full of Chinese hunting everything. There were baits hung everywhere. Cats need a lot of real estate.
