G'day fellow Australian hunters.

Like all hunters Africa is on my list but I will not hunt what I cannot export.

Is Cape Buff the only DG an Australian hunter can export?

Cheers

Kharn, of the recognised big 5 the only one you can IMPORT to Aus is Buffalo.

Sad, doubt I'll make the trip.

Kharn, it's your money, your hunt and therefore your business what you do.

Just remember that there are many wonderful opportunities for management Elephant and tusk-less Cows where the excitement and experience is little different from a "trophy" hunt with no need to worry about import/export and the benefits to the communities and wildlife itself are real, and much needed.

The cats, for us Aussies are just plain out ! and a Rhino (White) hunt these days is going to be some mega spindoolies with again no chance for import to Aus.

A fantastic, memorable hunt combining a management Elephant and a couple of buff would be an incredible experience, no less diminished just because it was not the complete big five, and a WHOLE LOT cheaper.

The best blow to tree huggers, and anti hunting export/import bans is to go hunting, despite all these, and no trophies to take home. It then, makes the ban useless, and the hunt more afordable.
For ele: possibility of replica tusk, is also an option.

Also, in many world wide indigenous hunting communities (most of them), taking trophy is not part of the culture. We are getting close to that.

Dunno sounds like this bloke had made his mind up before posting.

A tuskless/management hunt would be bloody amazing I reckon. If you're that hung up on trophies get an imitation tusk made.

Agree with what the others have summed up so well. It won't stop me hunting ele one day.

Hippo is another unique hunt that you can export to Oz.

Welcome to AH.
I know nothing of Australia’s import laws, however, a buffalo is a great hunt and as PaulT suggests, a tuskless elephant hunt would be exciting.
Hunting Africa is as much about the experience and memories as the trophies. There are people that go on cull hunts to cut costs but still have the experience.
Besides DG, hunts for kudu, eland, and others can be more memorable than the DG. Even though buffalo was my main target on my first safari and it is permanently ingrained in my memory, I’ll always remember the stalk for my kudu. And the shot I made on my warthog. And. the shot across the lake on my bushbuck. And...
Everyone has their own priorities but Africa is something special.
Kharn... find out what is importable and GO!

For me, the trophy of an Elephant hunt is the experience not the size of the tusks.

I value the hides/skins as I can actually use the hides for practical means besides "just look at it" with the trophies.

Notice how I said export not trophies. :)

I agree with you "mark-hunter".
