"President Magufuli declared on 15.01.2019, that from now on illegal settlers and cattle breeders may no longer be expelled from the game reserves.
He ordered, that not so important national parks and protected forests be identified. They will then be released for agriculture and livestock farming.

Nearby, half of the hunting blocks there have not been taken for years, due to lack of interest................
Lots of politicians have huge cattleherds........
A very bad message for our wilderness friends.
The way where this leads is foreseeable.

When huge tracts of wild land were turned back to the government from Outfitters it was the first alarm, here is the second.

This is what has happened in Kenya. Parks look large on a map, but on the ground, encroachment has been happening for decades.

On the other hand, some countries take these matters seriously. While I was hunting in Benin, cattle herders had moved into a corner of Pendjari National Park. We heard the automatic gun fire. It turned out that the army had killed every cow, which was then left there to feed predators. This takes political will in a poor country.

Tanzania has not shown any political will, and the result will be a large decline in animal populations. Which will in turn lead to politicians beginning to heed calls to stop hunting - as if hunting was the issue.

WOW! It gets worse all the time.

Unfreakinbelivable!

This information came out a couple of months ago.

Sad all the way around.

According to the U.N., Tanzania will be the 6th largest country in the world by population in the year 2100. This in an area about the size of Texas and Oklahoma combined and about as arid. With the growth of the pastoralists herds, it will only get worse for the wildlife.

Rinderpest 2.0 ?!?!?!?

I will ask hypothetical (stupid) question:

Is there any chance that in the future Tanzania may start game farming on Namibian or RSA model? (And reduced cattle farming at later point) Are there such ideas at all?

I think the trend is gonna be that as East Africa's wildlife declines outside of major parks and reserves, Southern Africa's wildlife will boom, especially with Botswana utilizing sustainable utilization
